It’s a huge game. City are catching up and they are currently 10 points behind us with two games in hand. They’ll face Wolves away this weekend, who knows they could drop some points there. That would be a nice bonus after them winning all nine games in all comps after losing 1-0 to us.

Liverpool have been in shaky form since we beat them 4-3 in that crazy match at the end of January. 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats in their last six.

United since that January derby: 4-2-1. I’d say the big loss to Man City was probably not as crucial as the draws against Derby and Forest. But the win against Blackburn before the international break hopefully wiped out some pain from that Man City game.

A win here would be a huge one as our last five in the league after this will be Stoke (H), Wolves (A), Sunderland (H) and Everton (H). Anything can happen at this level, but apart from Wolves all of them are in the bottom four in the North table.

Especially with some key players coming back soon and some of the younger lads hitting form I’m confident we’d get the job done if we beat Liverpool on Saturday.

Have to agree with that - I just can't see us losing this if we get 3 points today. If City drop points in just 1 of their 7 remaining games, it will require as little as 7 points from our 4 remaining games to finish top - if we win today.

And you called Liverpools form shaky - that was being nice. After they destroyed Arsenal 7-1 in the FA Youth Cup, their form has completely gone down the drain, with just 2 wins in 8 games

What is even worse is that they are giving away so many chances. When they drew away 2-2 to Boro, the home-team had 24 shots. When Leeds beat Liverpool 3-1, Leeds had 28 shots. When Liverpool beat Blackburn by 5-1, the visitors had the same amount of shots as Liverpool had - 22. And when we beat them 4-3 - we had 27 shots against them

So defensively - they are awful.

This is filling me with more confidence for today's game. :)

As the OP suggested, I've been a little worried about the table, and City's games in hand, ever since those two draws were we dropped 4 points in winnable games. That moved City within catching distance, if they win their games in hand. Especially as we still had City and Liverpool away. We lost to City, and I wasn't particularly confident about today's game but good to read that they're in poor form and poor defensively.

The U18's have been so good all season that it would be a real shame if we didn't at least win the Northern section. They definitely deserve it so far.

That is a seriously good U18-side - and one of the strongest U18 benches I have seen

And their by far best player - Kane Doherty not starting

1-0 United Scanlon (1) - McAllister free on the right and cuts it back for Scanlon who hammers it into the roof of the net from 10 yards out

2-0 Wheatley - awful defending. A Liverpool-defender plays it straight to Devaney who finds Wheatley - and he calmly slots it into the bottom corner

Great start from United. Liverpool unable to handle our press. Nice finish from Wheatley. Even better celebration, hope the Liverpool bench saw that.

3-0 Wheatley (15) hammers it into the bottom corner from 18 yards out - good strike.

Wheatley answering the criticism about his finishing in an excellent manner. Perfect finishes.

Wonder if a full international has ever played u18 match before. I know Gibraltar but still has to be a record.

Myles - Amass, Munro, Ogunneye - Lacey, Curley, J.Flecher, T.Fletcher, Missin - Musa and Biancheri

That is the best team we could field that doesn't start today - jeez how much quality we have at this level

Brilliant ball from Wheatley to Devaney. He’s improved so much this season.

Let’s not forget Fitzgerald as well.

Liverpool are lucky it's only 3 - we could have scored 5 in 20 minutes

There's two on the pitch (or at least were before he was subbed off). Kyle Kelly for Liverpool is a St. Kitts international.

4-0 Williams (26) superb solo-goal. Avoids 2 challenges and hammers the ball into the net from 20 yards

Mantato hits the post from 5 yards after a superb run from Kamason
