Ruud ftw
Won 4-1, what a wonderful day this has been. No news on team/scorers yet. Highlights on MUTV at 6/6.30pm tomorrow evening I think.

FA Premier Academy League
Saturday April 17th 2010

MIDDLESBROUGH ACADEMY 1
Park (7)

MANCHESTER UNITED ACADEMY 4
Ajose (30, 56), Thorpe (45), Morrison (51)

U18s: Boro 1 United 4

United's youngsters recovered from an early setback on Teeside to claim three points with a resounding 4-1 win over Middlesbrough.

The Reds trailed after just seven minutes as Cameron Park fired home a stunning strike via the inside of the post. Nick Ajose quickly hauled United level, keeping his cool to finish after finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

United completed a telling turnaround in quickfire spell either side of the interval. On the stroke of half-time, Tom Thorpe tapped in from close range from a corner, and five minutes after the break Ravel Morrison fired home to double the Reds' lead.

Amid trying, windy conditions, United blew the hosts away as Ajose fired in a sharp, near-post finish just five minutes later to finish the scoring.

It was plain sailing for the Reds thereon, and Paul McGuinness and his players can reflect on a job well done, as well as three more priceless points as United look to hold off the challenge of Everton and West Bromwich Albion at the top of the table.

Great result. They have recovered well after the poor spell following the defeat in the Youth Cup. Good to see Morrison back and amongst the goals.

Is that Thorpe's first goal for the Academy?

It is indeed.

Ajose up to double figures now, only one behind Keane.

1. Devlin
2. Brown
3. Fryers
4. Thorpe (12. Fornasier)
5. McGinty
6. Pogba
7. Cole
8. Morrison (15. Hussain)
9. Cofie (14. Lingard)
10. Keane
11. Ajose (c)

Johnstone the only unused sub.

Ninth and tenth I believe (that's what my stats and the MUTV commentator said anyway).

I must have missed one on my stats then...

Everton (H), Liverpool (A), Birmingham (FAYC), Stoke (H), Crewe (H), Sunderland (H) x2, M'boro (A) x2

Keane, Morrison and Ajose were very prominent in the highlights. 4 excellent goals too, and the Middlesborough one was a great strike as well.

Assists

Keane (Ajose)
Ajose (Thorpe)
Pogba(Morrison)
Morrison (Ajose)

You missed 16. Wootton who was also unused.

Ta. I thought he must have been a sub seeing as he was sat on the bench in training gear, list I found elsewhere didn't have him on it though.

Cheers mate. Overlooked that one for some reason:wenger:

Whenever I watch an u18 highlights it's almost always Ajose who's better the rest yet it seems to me he isn't as highly rated as Keane, Pogba, Morrison etc.
Would be funny if he makes it in the end instead of all those highly rated chaps.

I think Ajose is a bit older than the other boys.
I'm not saying he is a bad player, but he doesn't have the skill of the other players you mentioned.
