U18s: Arsenal vs United (Free to watch on Youtube)

Do we think that Obi participates in this match?

Let’s hope so. The first team plays tonight and then on Sunday. So most likely it will be 45-60 minutes if he plays, depends on how Amorim sees it. Fortunately we’ve got Biancheri (and Bradbury) available again.

Is Scanlon injured? Would rather him on the left and Biancheri up top over Musa.

Think Jack Fletcher will be starting too, particularly as he was not used yesterday and so will Scanlon.

Obi hasn't started any game at any level since last week so he should be okay to play imo (unless we start him against Ipswich lol)

Obi

Probably Lacey to come on after HT (looks like we are still managing his minutes)

Scanlon and the Fletcher brothers are certain to start! I’d imagine Obi will too as he’s only getting cameos for the first team.

I’m going to this and taking my 10 year old for his first United match. Hoping Obi gets a game. I went to the first ever game at the Emirates 18 years ago to see the Fa Youth semi final. We lost 1-0 on the night but won the 2nd leg. Think only Welbeck and Cleverley made it from that team

Nick Cox:
”This is an amazing opportunity.

“We’ve had regular opportunities in recent years to play at Old Trafford and it’s of great importance for our boys to become familiar with our own ground. Practising in an arena where you’ll play games if you reach our first team is within our control and we do that regularly.

“We don’t quite as frequently get the opportunity to play in Premier League stadiums away from home. We’ve had some lovely experiences in the National League Cup and EFL Trophy, playing at first-team stadiums, and that’s great, but to play at another Premier League is an exciting one and a development opportunity.”

”It’s always important to play in a stadium where you’re the away team and the crowd are going to be against you and while we have great away followings, for your own support to be outnumbered by the home fans, to play in arena you’re unfamiliar with that brings some nerves.

“And naturally in terms of the actual match itself, we’re always keen to make sure our boys go up against the best players around and Arsenal have a wonderful youth system and develop great players so it’s great for our boys to have an opportunity to go up against a really good team.

“We also really like the jeopardy that the competitions we enter facilitate and the jeopardy of an away Youth Cup quarter-final is really exciting one. We hope we’ll overcome that challenge, but ultimately, whatever way it goes, there’s an experience to be had that all these young players will add to their armoury, in terms of what they learn on the night and how they’ll use that in their careers moving forward.”

I think it’s not being broadcast by mutv because all quarter final games are being shown on YouTube

That and the fact that only the home sides are permitted to broadcast these games on their own channels. Weird rules but it is what it is.

Had wished Amorim would do the same as EtH did with Wheatley in last year’s Premier League Cup final. Play the first half and sub him off at HT. He would still have been fresh for those few minutes on Sunday.

He may not even see the pitch on Sunday considering it's likely to be tight. First half would've been fine you'd think.

Yeah, I wasn't sure which way we'd go with this but, as he wasn't used at all on Wednesday, and probably won't feature much if at all on Sunday, then I was hoping he'd get to feature for some of tonight's game. In terms of us winning the game, he's certainly a huge loss. And would have been a big game for him personally as well, so a shame there's a (sort of) clash with the first team plans.

I guess maybe the quick turnarounds between Wednesday - Friday - Sunday, and the fact the two first team games are at home, while the Friday one is in London, maybe also played a part in terms of just keeping him based with the first team squad?

Ridiculous decision. He is nowhere ready for first-team football anyway. Let him play and develop here in an important fixture.

Should cruise through tonight regardless, Arsenal sit 8th in a poor standard PL South.

Looks very much like an all Manchester final is on the horizon.

Obi may get his chance to make a name for himself in front of a full house at that game. It did Garnacho and Kobe no harm

It would make too much sense, I guess, to play Scanlon on the left (his best position) and Biancheri as the striker (his best position).

A shame Obi isn’t playing. Missing the opportunity of playing against Arsenal at the Emirates to just sit on the bench for the first team
