Souness is trying the old 'we have other targets so hurry up and lower your price' game:
Blackburn remain hopeful of signing Dwight Yorke from Manchester United - but have warned they will switch to another target if a deal is not done soon.
Rovers have been trying all summer to prise Yorke away from United.
However despite weeks of talks the two sides are still some way apart in their valuations of the player who has just a year left on his Old Trafford contract.
Blackburn made an enquiry about Eidur Gudjohnsen earlier this summer, while they have also been linked with Robbie Keane and chief executive John Williams claims says will not wait forever to sign Yorke.
Williams said: "There's no change in the Yorke situation. We would like it to be sorted out as quickly as possible one way or another.
"We're still talking to Manchester United and they have been helpful in our negotiations, but there is still clear water between the two clubs.
"We have several irons in the fire should the Yorke deal unfortunately not go through.
"We have transfer windows for the first time and we don't want to be caught out. If the Yorke deal does not come off then we have got to look at other areas
