Trent Alexander Arnold

Thought Konate was really poor too. Van Dijk was a one-man's defence.
This is true. Robertson was awful too (again). Trent was part of a mostly poor back four, and not alone in his poor performance.

He was fecking awful today though. His attitude is infuriating when he plays like that.

United’s best moments almost entirely came on his side.

Absolutely rinsed by by a wing back who's not a particularly good dribbler or attacking in general. Credit to Amorim as it seems we were playing more down the left rather than through Amad on the right.

Think we've given the blueprint for other teams to get at this Liverpool team.

I suggest we admit @giorno into a mental institution for claiming TAA being a better defender than Marcelo was.

Manchester United have targeted Trent for a while now, always overloading that side. Rashford, for all his faults, had some joy against him in the past

Apparently potential to be the greatest right back of all time

Forest probably thought the same.

The only reason he can still be this bad defensively is arrogance. Like he's above the basics of defending.

Hows a tactic that was massively used against under Klopp a blueprint?.... It just doesn't always work as Liverpool get the space elsewhere and take that advantage.

Sky massively protecting this performance though, if it were Dalot getting rinsed, they'd have mentioned it about 10 times by now, zero so far for Trent.

Been a theme of his for a few years now. For all his quality on the ball he’s no longer interested in making the effort to defend week in week out the way he did when he broke through. He’s capable of being average defensively as the first half of the season showed. However, if he’s not arsed or off it he’s shockingly bad at upping his intensity going back . Couple it with konates first game back and Robbos legs being gone means we’re struggling in that department.

Still think we’ll be okay.

They are a better team with Bradley playing imo.

Tbh I haven’t seen much of Bradley, but I just think Trent plays a huge part in their build up.

Can’t argue he wasn’t shocking today though. Madrid fans would tear him apart for a performance like that.

That's 100% true today. Completely wrong up until this point though, he's been much better defensively this season.

Whether it was lack of commitment or not, the Madrid talk at the least opens him up to question on that front which isn't a good place to be.

He seems to be playing deeper under Slot and as you say contributing more to the build up, this means less assists and goals. However, with his glaring defensive flaws the trade off isn't worth it anymore imo if he's not contributing in the final third. Bradley is defensively a lot better and has potential going forward too.

Not sure about that. It was a bizzare decision to keep him on beyond 60. Usually he’d hook someone playing that poorly. I do wonder if all the chatter around it meant he thought he had to make a point.

Slot's unreal at how quickly he takes the game in to be fair. There's no way you prepare for post-match interviews that well otherwise.... but while he protected Trent a bit by saying it was Bruno and Dalot not Trent specifically, he still essentially said he was shit

I think he can defend, just some days it’s like he chooses not to or he’s not arsed. Bit of the Rashford about him in that way, although a much better player. They both occasionally look like they’re having an existential crisis rather than make the attacking or defensive runs they should be making.

I maintain he’s a fantastic player, horrible performance today though!

Madrid bound and I think it’ll do him good too.

Liverpool would be smart to sell him for money rather than lose him for nothing.
They have a league to win. How much would they get for selling him with 6 months left? Makes no sense to sell him unless he’s downed tools.

It’s a vast improvement on previous seasons. The lackadaisical approach to defending is the same though. Not sure why he was kept on the whole game, he could barely put a foot right.

It hasn't been though until today, he's noticeably putting more effort in defensively.

Agree on the sub, I assume Bradley just recovering from injury played a part but even still we could have switched it up in a different way earlier.
