in one of your last posts on the ill-famous thread, on which I'd rather not return since I hope I made my opinion clear, I have read:

"Lazio does have a problem with racist fans. But it is something of a problem in society which attached itself to football. Millwall, West Ham and the English team have a core of problem fans."

referring to the english clubs, what do you mean, more specifically ?

I mean that in recent history those clubs have had a core of racist fans associated with them. As has the England football team. My point being that you couldn't judge all their fans on the basis of a these groups.

I see.
Well, as far as my country is concerned, I've written on the "right gaining control of the organized support groups, quite a few times in the past.
What we have faced here is that starting from 10 years ago practically all, maybe one or two exceptions which are ultraminor teams, the organized fans groups are under the control of extreme right political groups.

The atmosphere in our stadiums is unbearable, and it's not a question of this or that team.
In certain cases this is more evident but this phenomenon is, disgracefully, generalized.

RG,

It was pretty similar here about 15/20 years ago. The National Front (right wing, nationalist group) used football as a recruiting ground. Where there were unemployed/dissatisfied people in working class communities. Much of it was pretty incoherent. The St George Cross (English national flag) was hijacked as their symbol.

About 4 years ago I went with a British Asian friend of mine who is an Arsenal fan to see them play West Ham. In a pub after the game a bunch of West Ham "fans" came in wearing "English and Proud" T-Shirts, and my friend asked me if we could leave.

Thankfully, much of this is now gone in football. Unfortunately, some Italian football seems to be suffering from what we used to have here.
