How are transfer fees calculated.

It just struck me that some of the money , in fact most of the money being bandied around the market is absolute madness...

Take the 80 million spent on Ronaldo for example. Is that a calculated not to exceed price based on projected income from merchandising or is it a figure that Mr gill pulled out of the sky to scare madrid off and then accepted when they agreed.

I see on the news on the BBC website that spurs are contemplating spending nearly 18 million on a 17 year old kid from belgium....How the hell is a kid worth that money...he may have potential but he may also break his leg or become the next hargreaves/saha injury prone type...

7 million for Bebe...an unknown from the portugese lower leagues...

Then we can be sure that clubs know that united are looking for a keeper now so prices will be nicely fluffed up when we come calling....

If you look at kaka benzema ronaldo and one or 2 others from Reals 1st team...thats a like 4 or 5 players that are apparently worth more than Liverpool.....

Where will this end? Or will it just spiral and spiral

Its all madness considering dundee in scotland, a whole club is going bust over a debt of 300 grand....

The £80 million is a fee Madrid/Perez came up with thinking it would intice us. Sir Alex had told Ronaldo that we'd let him go as long as we got a world record fee for him. So they actually paid more than they needed to. And it also shows Ronaldo wasnt doing anything too dodgy to push the deal through, like telling Madrid the exact amount we'd accept.

Bebe's fee was written into his contract. As were Nani and Anderson's. Release fees so that you can go straight to the player's agent and get a deal done quickly.

I'd like to think the insanity will not be so widespread once the FFP regulations are brought into play, this along with the newly implemented PL squad cap's and homegrown demands should see club's think a lot more carefully on who they buy and how much they pay for those players in both fees and salaries.

It's going to effect transfer policies for every club across Europe and hopefully in a positive way. The only drawback that could arise is that English/"Homegrown" player's price tags will become even more inflated but the worldwide transfer market should become more sensible and value-concious, which would kind of offset the potential inflation for homegrown talent especially as that particular premium already exists in the open market we currently have.

The Ronaldo deal really distorted the market, that is now the yardstick for which club's value their players, it'll take time for reality to strike and for chairmen/presidents to become more reasonable in their valuations of their player's.

will it be like the housing market though were players values just plummet?

fair enough players have release fees written into contracts but surely 7 million for bebe was too much....!

And as far as nani and anderson go, i feel we overpaid for them too.

Im starting to agree with fergie that there is actually no value in the market...although i do think his hands are tied by the debt aswell

To be fair there are 4 or 5 players at real salt lake city that are worth more than Liverpool

i was expecting a liverpool slagging

but seriously, some kid from belgium is 'worth' 17.5 mill...how much would torres and gerrard be worth, reina also...

I don't get values never have. Vidic was linked away from Old Trafford with two year left on his contract and a fee was rumoured to be between £12-18m. When an average defender like Lescott goes for £24m. Vidic is a vastly experienced International player and Lescott is a Premiership player.

On average defenders look at Chygrynskiy signed for Barca for £25m and was sold back to Shakthar under a year later for £10m.

Prices are crazy needed to be sorted in a big way.

The Bebe fee looks insane but it's far too early to make any real judgement.

but surely that judgement was already made...it has to be made before the sale....they paid a mad fee for potential...that may go either way

risky

On the Lukaku fee, he is rated as one of the brightest prospects in Europe and has the top clubs chasing him. It is like us paying £20 odd million for Rooney when he was 18.

Real Madrid where sniffing around, would of bumped any price up and we may have missed out on the player. So we paid out the release clause to seal the deal quicker than we'd of liked by the sounds of things.

feckin madrid again.....

alot of the inflation can be traced to there without a doubt.

Plus this way, we can train him up and if hes any good then Madrid can just come and take him for an even more inflated fee.

its a fair point but rooney had been performing at the highest level , the belgian league isnt the best so its expensive for a kid who hasnt done anything in spain or england etc

Whatever you they think its fit and then it gets altered with by the selling club and we then reach an agreement. Its like street shopping bargaining thing.
