Greatness ...... well about 10 games from it actua
With the season about to finish the transfer rumours and hype is about to leave the realm of hypothetical and start to become reality with 'real' players moving to 'real' clubs unlike the world soccernet and planetfootball live in.
so of all the names UTD have been linked to over the season, i though a checklist should be started so linked players can be ticked off when SHOCK HORROR they don't turn up at OT.

First Up ..... Cannavaro never really thought he would leave italy and would have cost us too much plus the prem may not have siuted him.

next ........?

Hernan Crespo. He is definitely headed to Spain next season.

heres what i think...

out

yorke
fortune
irwin
barthez (possibly, but rather he stay)

in

di canio
thuram
sorrenson (if fab goes)

easy ... some others mentioned and linked so far:

Hofland
Ayala
Nesta
Finnan
Cisse
Mexes

I hope nobody will mention Ronaldo here .. .that's not even worth a mention to be in the "checklist" .. noncense !

Out:

Yorke
Fortune
Barthez(i think...i don't hope so)
Irwin
Blanc

In:
Finnan
one relatively unestablished striker:
possibilities: Kezman(fairly est. but not at a big club), Ashton
One established defender:
possibilities: Nesta/Cannavaro(unlikely), Thuram, Ayala, Tudor(more likely)
One unestablished defender:
hofland, chivu(fairly est. but not at a big club), mexes.
One GK(if Barthez leaves), possibly Mickael Landreau or Sorenson

Can someone tell me when we were linked with Riquelme....i read an article on tribalfootball which said he was a man utd. target.

Out:

Yorke
Irwin
Fortune
Pip Neville
Veron (he doesn't fit in AND he hates Manchester, English weather, mushy peas, barmcakes and chip butties)
Barthez (ditto)

In:

Finnan (or any reasonable facsimile)
Thuram
Dyer
Sorensen, Hedman or similar

Sorted!

The Riquelme things was quite some time back cd ... with Veron's debate going on and on now. .. I don think there will be another Argentinian playmaker coming in this summer ... no no it just won't happen ... so we could leave that out for a while at least ... :p

IN: Thuram / Di Canio / Ayala (maybe) / Gallardo (hopefully)

OUT:
Yorke (Blackburn/Birmingham: if they get up in play offs)
Irwin
Fortune (to a bolton or sunderland etc.)
Van Der Gouw
P. Neville (maybe, apparently bolton are interested)
Veron (i cant call this one if he does go - most likely barcelona or lazio)

BOLLOCKS SPECULATION: Nesta / Cannavaro / Crespo / Ronaldo / Rivaldo / Trezeguet / Figo / Poom / Weir / Karl Fletcher / Hulk Hogan / My Mum and all the rest of the worlds 6 billion population linked to Old Trafford. ;)

Why would we want Gallardo ? He's never been linked with United and SAF doesn't seem to want him at all. Plus, he is a midfielder, and we have plenty of those. If Beckham does not sign a new contract soon I would be resigned to losing him, and if this does arise I would drop buying two defenders and only get one, using the remainding money to attempt to get Keiron Dyer - Newcastle would be mad to sell tho.

Tell me where the adequate cover for giggs and beckham is in our squad????

The answer we dont have it as proved by the fact we are playing players out of position now that becks is injured, Gallardo plays all along the midfield and is a quality player who would not be of a ridiculous price.

We need wing cover, and this would a be a realistic option Gazza.

Plus beckham will sign!

Cover for Beckham ? Look no further than our two young gems, Luke Chadwick (who has played and scored many times for the first-team) and Darren Fletcher. Both can do a job on the right and in Chadwick's case can play on the left as well. I agree we need some strengthening on the left, but Gallardo would not want to be a reserve. We need a competent LM who won't always be knocking on SAF's door. Gallardo is a good player, but tell me, why spend upwards of 15m for a player who could well complain when he doesn't play, and may even not fit in in England, when we can breed such terrific youngsters ? Becks rarely gets injured - his recent foot injury was his first major set-back for an age.

the HULkster HELL YEAH!!!!

lets see
don't care who comes in, yet really would like to see top quality defenders come in to patch up the crappy D. Hope blanc and barthez stays, if barthez leaves it would be very terrible seeing that he is world class, and if anyone says he makes alot of mistakes they are friggin stupid because hes human and you make mistakes as well!! ummmmm.......so barthez should stay cause hes class. same goes for VERON & BLANC!!!! and if they do leave its their choice. thats about it i would do anything to see Roberto Carlos in a United shirt.

Gazza. mate i see your point but i'm just concerned, along with a lot of pundits who have questioned whether we adequate cover for giggs and becks, i would love tho to see djordic brought more into the first team squad.

I would only want us to buy gallardo if he was around the £10-£12mill mark, as thats what i have been told he is going for.

Who told you he'll go for 10m ? Chances are Gallardo, who was today named in the Argentine World Cup squad, will go for over 15m. Considering we have quality midfielders in abundance, he would be surplus to requirements. As for Djordjic, he did sound like an outstanding talent when he won young player of the year for us two years ago, but since then he has not really furthered himself, and even Sheffield Wednesday rejected him after just 6 games on trial. Still a good prospect, but we have plenty of good quality youngsters itching to make their bow next term.
