Training Day

Me too i cant remember the music, a powerful musical score is not for those bad-cop movie theme's, so maybe shite music was fitting. However Denzel was mustard and so was Ethan Hawke...the scene where Denzel shoves the crack out of Snoop was striking stuff

Insufficient freestyling?

Exactly

Training Day's also a bit racially dubious I reckon... it's basically about an innocent white guy whose eyes are opened to a world of black and Hispanic gangland violence and criminality... and then we cheer as he prevails over the evil black man. Maybe I'm readin too much into it, but pretty much every non-white in the film is a bad guy.

There's Washington's ex-colleague, I suppose, who's white... but we're meant to feel sorry for him. And there are some Russian gangsters at large, but we never really see them.

Felt similar re "8 Mile"... there's something of the Rocky v. Black dude thing going on as we watch Eminem outwit and humiliate a succession of black guys to win round a hostile black audience till they worship him.

Not saying they're deliberately racist, it's just it seems audiences particularly respond to that.

In The Hands Of The Gods isn't racist at all, incidentally...

I think its an excellent film, convinced me that Denzil is a great actor, despite being the bad guy he stole the show

I believe he did. Not as good a film as Man On Fire though, imo.

Anyone remember or ever seen 'Carbon Copy'? Wouldn't be surprised if someone called the title racist these days.

Man On Fire is a bit crap, in all honesty.

I think you're reading too much into it, David Ayer lived in South Central LA and most of his scripts involve LA in someway, or submarines, he likes his submarines. Anyway, it's a coincidence that the only good guy is a honkey (love that word).

'In all honesty' isn't the right phrase. It's a superb film in most peoples' opinion, and in this case most people happen to be right. You could get away with in your honest opinion.

Ok, I should have said - "Tony Scott is the most annoying director ever, and anyone who disagrees should have their bowels eaten by an angry squirrel."

Superb is not a word I'd use, as it's not possible for Tony Scott not to ruin the efforts of his leading actors in every way he can.

if you liked training day, watch harsh times with christian bale. its written and directed by the same guy who did training day, david ayer.

Nunno, that's worse.

He does include an annoying technique but even with a points deduction for that the film remains superb.
