The competition has opened up a lot these days and also its relatively easier to achieve GM norms.

Kasparov at best should be rated much higher than the 2850 .. he was rated at.

Alekhine and Botvinik should've also been rated much higher.

Raymond Keene and some other bloke released a new rating system that gives more importance to scores against stronger players and also their visiblity.

Kasparov was rated at 3000 followed by Karpov at 2873...None of the current GM's figured in the top 10 list.
