Top ten players you've seen play (live at match or TV)

I'll start:

1-Diego Maradona A magician IMO; I feel fortunate to have watched quite a few games during his first years at Napoli; impossible dribbles, sudden shots that cleaned the spiders of the goal from 40 yards... all this package in a chubby, 170cm tall frame. Joy to watch.

2-Michel Platini Le Roi; incredible fantasy and creativity in midfield, and one of the best scorers for France and Juventus. Winner of Ballon d'Or 3 times in a row. Deadly freekicks.

3-Franco Baresi Quite simply the best defender I've seen play. Incredible sense of positioning, and great on 1-on-1 situations

4-Marco Van Basten Quite simply the best finisher in the game. Classy and deadly. Who could forget his 5 goals against Napoli in 20 mins? Or that incredible goal agaisnt Russia?

5-Dino Zoff Best keeper there ever was. Enough said.

6-Karl Heinz Rummenige I highly rate this lad; remember his contributions when he came on in the second OT durig France-Germany 3:1 in 1982. Scored one and setup another. A couple of great seasons with Inter. Great WC in 1986 too.

7-Gabriel Batistuta (and not the Roma version) He played some 9 great seasons at Fiorentina, scoring from incredible positions. A case of what if...

8-Zinedine Zidane Quite simply the best player today.

9-Ronaldo I've mentioned him for that incredible season he had witrh Inter (which according to him paled to his performances at Barcelona and PSV). Get back well Ronnie.

10-Luis Figo The perfect athlete. Strong, technical, full of fantasy and guile.

Pele and Cruijf were from different eras. Having included Rumminigge and Platini I expected to see Cruijf.

Cruijf stopped playing in the late 70's. Platini and Maradona are 80's players. What are you rambling on?

Maradona - the greatest player of all time, who can forget Mexico 86? or his time at Napoli? He was a one man team...

Zico - My fav during Espania 82, very skillful also had a great free kick.

Ronaldo - at his best, an awesome sight, powerful and skillful.

Zidane - best French player of all time IMO, great passer, free-kick taker.. a joy to watch. 'As good as it gets' - quote by Alan Hansen, after a breath-taking display during France 98.

Platini- very creative player, brilliant around the early 80's

Marco Van Basten - Agreed with Suedesi, the best finisher i've seen.

Robson - what can i say? carried United and England during the 80's, i loved is hunger and determination....

Rivaldo- a magican, who could forget his last minute over head kick that got Barca into the Cl.. that goal must've been worth 20mil.

Big Pete- The greatest keeper of all time, better than Yashin and Banks, according to people that have seen them all play..

<a href="http://members.tripod.com/~LauD/career.htm" target="_blank">Cruyff's Career Facts</a>
1947 Born on April 25 in Amsterdam
....

1978 Retired from the national team after helping them qualified for the World Cup in Argentina. Retired from Barcelona and European football.

1979 Return to football but played in the US. First with Los Angeles Aztecs then Washington Diplomats.

1981 Returned to Europe, played for Levante of Spain briefly. Later returned to Ajax for a couple of years then finished his playing days with Feyenoord.

1984 Returned to Ajax as "technical director".

He might "played" with Feyenord until 1984... but he still quit meaningful football in late 70's sunshine.

Well I first went to Old Trafford in 1971 so I've seen Denis Law, George Best, in European games I've seen Maradona (when we thrashed Barcelona in 1984), Michel Platini, Ziggy Boniek, Mario Kempes.......

Oh the list is endless, Paulo Rossi, Dino Zoff (when we beat Juventus 1-0 in 1976, a volley from Gordon Hill)....... :) .........

I know that there's loads more that I've forgotten........ :) ........

Meaningful football?? Come on sunshine, what the feck does that mean? He played at the same time Platini and Rummenigge did so there's every chance you could have seen him. Capisce?

Platini, Zoff, Tardelli, Scirea, Boniek, Cabrini, Rossi, Bettega, Gentile, Brady, Altafini, Bonisegna, Furino... half the Italian team of 82 plus Platini & Boniek. Not bad at all.

scudetto_1983.jpg

Arguably this team's better:
Vieri, Boksic, Zidane, Jugovic, Montero, Deschamps, Conte, Del Piero, Torricelli, Ferrara.

Live....
1..Maradona
2..Pele
3..Best
4..Cantona
5..Cruyff
6..Rivaldo
7..Zidane
8..Figo
9..Schmiechel
10.Muller

Sued: close call both teams were awesome...we'll call it a draw ;)

Juve should never have sold Vieri and Boksic, replacing one with Inzaghi was a joke of the decade. Vieri and boksic were powerful strikers(for Juve).. a handful for the best defenders in the world. Without them Juve didn't look as frightening.

Juve had a habit of destroying teams after a winning season. Vialli and Ravanelli were sold after the CL, Boksic and Vieri a year later... stuck with fecking Inzaghi for 3 years. He played well the first year scoring 60 goals with Del Piero, but was shite afterwards.
