Top Ten likely goalkeeper targets?

He's 33 and very often injured. He wouldn't be worth the money most likely.

De Gea and Stekelenberg appear to be obvious favorites at the moment though.

David de Gea Quintana (born 7 November 1990 in Madrid) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Atlético Madrid as a goalkeeper. ...

Bit young eh?

Maarten Stekelenburg born 22 September 1982 in Haarlem) is a professional Dutch football goalkeeper who plays for Ajax and the Netherlands national football team....

28, bit more like it. 6'6" as well. What's he like with his feet and clearances?

Perfect age really isn't he for a keeper?

I think he's still worth a good few years, yes, but you'd still want a one preferably 25-30 years old to get the best 5-10 years out of them.

Obviously VDS has shown he's still top drawer despite being forty years old as have a few others such as Shilton and Zoff before him but it doesn't always work like this.

I think Buffon's best days are behind him, he has some sciatic nerve problem which has seen him out here and there the last two years or so, I think Alex Manninger's played as many for Juve as Buffon has recently.

Quality keeper in the early to middle of the last decade, unrivalled probably until the brief emergence of Cech and VDS's form for United...

The only thing I know about Maarten is that he has an obscene percentage of penalty saves in his CV. Tall intimidating, not as Pete, but he is huge when it comes to one on one. De Gea is look too fragile for my liking.

We need someone who is, not only a shot stopper and good with crosses, but also good with their feet. Prior to VDS we had keepers who couldn't clear the ball properly and the ball was landing in midfield before the half way line causing all sorts of problems. Also, once our back four have doubts about passing back to the goalkeeper it causes hesitation across the field.

Agreed - Kuszcazk t'other day looked like a deer blinded in the headlights with his clearing, he was terrible.

Whatever happened to that Argentine Goalkeeper who could pretty much pin point his kicks and had an insane throw on him? Can't remember his name but he was fecking just insane with his feet. He can't be that old, he only played in the last world cup I think.

I havent really ever seen De Gea playing so I cant comment but I have Steklenburg a good few times, he has always looked decent to me.

it seems we are, according to the papers atleast, getting one of the two mentioned predominantly here. I haven't been following the German Leagues that closely, but Adler in the past was getting rave reviews, i guess injuries have stalled his progress. Likewise our very own Ron Robert Zieler, who's doing quite well inbetween the sticks from what i gather.

But i'd be very surprised if we get anyone other than Steke or De Gea.

Oh btw, if anyone who watches the german league could comment about Ron Robert that'd be fantastic, I like to keep an eye out for former trainees.

You don't ever tend to see Argentine goalkeepers in the European leagues for some reason, I'm not aware of any.
Not sure why that's the case, but the national goalies tend to all be from Estudiantes, Boca, River etc and never in Serie A or La Liga even.

There's a few. Their first choice at the WC Sergio Romero plays for AZ Alkmaar I think. There's also Andujar in Catania and the Getafe goalie Ustari.

It's a real shame Adler has stalled somewhat. He's such a well known Utd fan, to the point he's got a clause in his contract just for us, that it would've been great to have him between the sticks for the rest of his career.

It could still happen and he'd still be up there, but others do seem to have overtaken him.

De Gea
Stekelenburg
Adler
Lloris
Buffon
Akinfeev
Rui Patricio
Reina
Julio Cesar
Gordon

Shay Given. Wouldn't surprise me in the least with the transfer curve balls over the past few seasons.
