Just off some idle thoughts. How much did the top teams corner the talent in the respective leagues?

If we build a all time top team XI vs all time rest of the league who have never played for top team XI, will the match be competitive? e.g. all time Man Utd XI vs all time rest of EPL XI? all time Bayern Munich XI vs all time rest of Bundesliga XI?

A bit more dicer for La Liga as we can a Real + Barca XI vs rest of league XI? Both Milan + Juve XI vs Rest of Serie A XI?

Do I get this right: Kohler (for example) only counts as a Bayern player here, not Köln/Dortmund?

What are top teams and do foreign teams count for the rest of the league players?

If it’s only, say, Bayern or Man Utd then its pretty easy.

the only non team that stands a minor chance is serie a because of maradona but evem them would most likely lose majority of the games

ohh just saw its only united in prem, we would be smashed

Both Milan + Juve XI vs Rest of Serie A XI?
Buffon
Cafu - Nesta - Baresi - Maldini
Rijkaard - Davids
Gullit - Rivera - Del Piero
van Basten

Riva - Batistuta
Maradona - Zico
Falcão - Matthäus
Facchetti - Passarella - Bergomi - Zanetti
Pagliuca

Something like this?

Old Firm v the Rest

Goram
McGrain - Gough - Van Dijk - Caldow
Johnstone - Gascoigne - Baxter - Laudrup
Dalglish - Larsson

Caniggia - Reilly - Gilzean
Mackay - Sauzee - Strachan
Robertson - Miller - McLeish - Narey
Leighton

Have probably forgotten someone...

Neuer
Lahm Beckenbauer Kohler Brehme
Matthäus Schweini
Robben .................................. Ribery
Rummenigge Müller

vs

Seeler
Simonsen .. Walter ......... Rahn
Overath Bonhof
Schnellinger Förster Sammer Vogts
Köpke
  • best all-timers playing for Bayern, not greatest Bayern players
  • Overath/Netzer/Schuster purely a matter of preference
Gets more interesting if the rest of the league gets first dibs on part-time Bavarians:
Kahn
Lahm Boateng Beckenbauer Lizarazu
Breitner Schweini
Robben .................................. Ribery
Rummenigge Müller

vs

Lewandowski Seeler
Walter
Brehme ... Overath Matthäus ... Kaltz
Kohler Sammer Vogts
Neuer

(only took Bayern players who played BL for another club before Bayern)

all time Bayern Munich XI vs all time rest of Bundesliga XI
Neuer
Lahm - Kohler - Beckenbauer - Breitner
Schweinsteiger - Matthäus
T. Müller
Robben - G. Müller - Rummenigge

(maybe play Lewa up front with Gerd and play Rummenigge out wide?)
Bench: Lewandowski, Ribery, Brehme

Simonsen - Seeler - Littbarski
Netzer
Overath - Stielike
Briegel - Schulz - Sammer - Vogts
Illgner

Bench: F. Walter, Kaltz, Förster, Schnellinger, Reus, Bonhof, Schuster

edit: edited slightly after seeing @Synco 's post. Forgot about Schuster, I just don't associate him with BL at all.

all time Man Utd XI vs all time rest of EPL XI
Schmeichel
Irwin - Rio - Vidić - Evra
Keane - Robson
Best - Charlton - Cristiano
Law

vs Foreign XI (and Ashley Cole)

Henry Suarez
D. Silva - De Bruyne
Vieira - Kanté
Cole* - van Dijk - Carvalho - Cancelo
Čech

vs non-United British XI

Finney - Greaves - Shearer - Matthews
Mackay - Gerrard
Sansom - Wright - Moore - Armfield
Banks

Bayern in Germany, not sure about Serie A or PL to be honest. Haven’t tried to make one for La Liga but I doubt that the rest of the league has any chance whatsoever.

Buffon
Cafu Nesta Baresi Maldini
Gullit Rijkaard Davids Nedved
Platini
Van Basten
feck all chance any team beats this. Thats like best back 5 ever, best DM in front, top 3 defensive b2b next to him, Gullit + Nedved, close to a GOAT level player in Platini and at worst top 3 striker of all time. Out of 10 they are winning at least 4, gonna lose 1, at worst 2.

Forgot about Schuster, I just don't associate him with BL at all.
True, very much a La Liga player. Also wonder if Szymmy should go into all our non-Bayern XIs, but can't confidently say...

La Liga

Cristiano - Ronaldo - Messi
Iniesta - Xavi
Redondo
Carlos - Koeman - Puyol - Alves

Kempes - Aguero - Makaay
David Silva
Mauro Silva - Simeone
Luis - Godin - Ayala - Angloma
Oblak

I’d imagine that even the Real + Barça (have to have played for both) XI will beat that of the rest of La Liga even if its defense is completely makeshift (only Munoz is a pure defender, but maybe I’m missing someone).

Ronaldo
Eto’o - Laudrup - Figo
Schuster - Prosinecki
L. Enrique - Celades - Mills - Munoz
Zamora

edit: although now that @Gio had actually posted it… probably not

Good team, but Agüero played for Barça. Maybe Torres, Futre, Forlán...

All time Ajax Xi( players that have footages only)

Van Der Sar

Suubrier Hulshoff Vasovic Krol
Rijkaard
Neeskens Cryuff( free role/lam)

Swart Van Basten Keizer

Bench: De Boer, Litmanen, Muhren, Winter, Johnny Rep, Bergkamp and Lerby

coach: Rinus Michels

vs The Rest from Ajax

Van Breukelen

Gerets Rijsbergen Israel Van Bronckhorst
Jansen
Cocu Willem Van Hanegem

Gullit Romario Moujin

Bench: Kindvall, Willy Van Der Kerkhof, Rene Van Der Kerkhof, Ronaldo, Van Nistelroy, Jan Van Beveren and Van Der Kuijlen

Coach: God Ernst Happel

So it would be no participation from players like Puck Van Heel, De Natris, Bas Paauwee, Piet Fransen, Van Den Broek, Abe Lenstra and Kick Smit( all of those guys don’t have any real footage or full match).

*Cryuff is exception, although he had played for Feyenoord.

Did Caniggia not play for your lot briefly?
So he did, so he did

Yeah, it’s just a nightmare as so many players have bookended their careers with a stint at one of the big two.

Edit - feck it, just stick Valeron in next to Silva and watch them run rings around Xaviesta

Koeman played for Ajax as well as Stam. And we should probably be able to fit Ronaldo in somehow — he was already world-class for PSV (as well as van Nistelrooy but I guess it’s bench time for him).

Thanks for reminding me. It’s 3am night in my country, so I’m a bit sleepy now.

Already edit, mate :)

Aye, Ro-Ro is a must. Depending on how we're weighting overall quality against length of tenure in the league, Rensenbrink could come in for Moulijn. Gullit can easily be dropped back to libero or the right side of midfield to ramp up the quality there and free up a slot higher up the park.

Rensenbrink is no doubt a superior player to Moujin. However, I base on their performances in the Dutch league. Rensnebrink best period was during his days in Belgium( both Anderlecht and Club Brugge), while Moujin was an iconic figure of Feyenoord and was considered as one of the best players alongside WVH and Israel. Moujin also spent his time at Feyenoord for 17 years and he was in the team that won European Cup by the Dutch club for the first time.

Barca Real pool is insane, you can pretty much build 3 or 4 teams that would easily beat the rest of the league

van der Sar
Stam* - Koeman - Krol
Rijkaard
Neeskens - Davids
Cruyff
Swart - van Basten - Keizer

Romario - Ronaldo
Gullit
van Hanegem - W. van de Kerkhof
Jansen
van Bronckhorst - Israel - Gerets
van Beveren

Interesting. Taking @Gio ’s team as a reference point:
Kempes - Torres - Makaay
David Silva
Mauro Silva - Simeone
Luis - Godin - Ayala - Angloma
Oblak

(Switched some players around to create better synergy, so it’s not like I’m claiming that Benzema is better than Barça’s Ronaldo)
1.
Cristiano - Benzema - Messi
Iniesta - Xavi
Busquets
Marcelo - Hierro - Puyol - Alves
Casillas

2.
Gento - Puskás - Di Stéfano - Figo
Redondo - L. Suárez
Camacho - Ramos - Koeman - Carvajal
Valdes

3.
Rivaldo - Ronaldo - Ronaldinho
Pirri - Schuster
X. Alonso
R. Carlos - Pique - Sanchis - Chendo
Zamora

4.
Stoichkov - Suárez - Kubala
Cruyff - Neeskens
Stielike
Abidal - Varane - Santamaría - Arbeloa
Zubizarreta

5.
Neymar - Raúl - Eto’o
Laudrup
Modrić - Casemiro
Alba - Pepe - Cannavaro - L. Enrique
Courtois

I think we’re still at the point of comfortingly beating the opposition and we have the likes of Maradona, Zidane, Kocsis, Czibor, Romario, Kroos, Özil, Butragueño, Villa, Míchel, Sanchez, Guardiola, Makélélé, Seedorf, Netzer, Breitner etc. left…

@harms yap, you just take a GOAT and build around him - Messi, Cristiano, Di Stefano, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho etc. and then you still have an option of building a team without a standout superstar....
