What's the deal like?

I could've sworn the new season was only 4/5 episodes in? But lately they seem to be showing 'Best of top gear' all the time. Why the hiatus?

They get something like 14/15 episodes a year and split em into segments, so 5, 5, and 5.

I miss the glory days of top gear; it's not been as good for a while now.

What Nick said. Hasn't been good for years. The sad thing is, despite it not being very good, its still 90 times better than most things on TV these days.

Yeah this year wasn't the best but I wouldn't say hasn't been good for years still a very good show. I remember Clarkson was on the Chris Moyles show talking about not having much time for the series with the big tour and being moved about for the X factor. I read they might have 10 eps with a big special at the end of the year in the summer not the 7 in spring and 7 in the autumn.

Yeah it's 7 episodes per season. I don't think it's been especially on the wane (I still find it quite watchable), but as has been said I think that's more a reflection on TV in general.
