IMHO

1. Master of Puppets, Metallica 1986

2. Chaos AD, Sepultura 1993

3. Reign in Blood, Slayer 1986

4. Vulgar Display of Power, Pantera 1992

5. Rust in Peace, Megadeth 1990

You appear to have missed 'The Blackening' by Machine Head...

Hmm would Appetite for Destruction and Pyromania qualify as heavy metal records? Anyway from the ones that i have heard in no particular order...

Master of Puppets - Metallica
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Sad Wings of Destiny - Judas Priest
Number of the beast - Iron Maiden
Back in Black - AC/DC

Don't know if ACDC are heavy metal. More like Hard Rock.

If Dream Theater counts as Heavy Metal band I'd put Images and Words on the list.

Paranoid - Sabbath
British Steel - Judas Priest
Machine Head - Deep Purple
Iron Maiden -Iron Maiden
Sad Wings of Destiny - Judas Priest

Metallica - Black album
Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Aggression
Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Ozz

In no particular order.

Too many for me to condense into 5. Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell is near the top though.

That's some good choices Hairdryer. And Justice For All deserves a mention if you're bringing up Metallica.

I left it out for two reasons

1. The fecked up the mixing of it and as a result you can't hear the bass guitar properly and there's a hum throughout the whole album.

2. The made rhythem and drum sections are so complex they were unable to perform half the songs live.

Other than that it's a mint album.

Master Of Puppets - Metallica
The Cleansing - Suicide Silence
Far Beyond Driven - Pantera
Shadows are Security - As I Lay Dying
Ashes Of The Wake - Lamb Of God

4. Vulgar Display of Power, Pantera 1992

5. Rust in Peace, Megadeth 1990

That's a proper list but like Spammy I'd pick Justice for All too. IMHO, Metallica's best album.

Excellent lists... I'll try do something slightly different, there.

Fear Factory - Demanufacture
Strapping Young Lad - City
Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction
Death - Individual Thought Patterns
Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys

Aye, true but all the same, better song writing for me.

Yes.

Master of Puppets is definitely better than Justice. Agreed though that Justice is better lyrically. That's how it was post-MoP, while their music mellowed they became lyrically better with Load and ReLoad having some excellent lyrics

Dream Theater - I liked Awake better than Images and Words. A Change of Seasons for the title track deserves a mention. These guys are a definite breath of fresh air from the growl group

Prefer Di Anno over Dickinson in Iron Maiden, so their self titled album was for me their best. Number of the Beast a close second

The rest have already been mentioned, Rust in Peace by Megadeth and Paranoid by Sabbath, although the latter isn't Heavy Metal per se

1. Slayer - Reign in Blood
2. Metallica - Master of Puppets
3. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
4. Isis - Oceanic
5. Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk

Think its more heavy rock than metal.. but I love.

How can you put 'Far Beyond Driven' above 'Vulgar Display of Power'?

That's just wrong
