In no particular order.

Godfather
Godfather 2
Infernal Affairs
Scarface
Goodfellas

(I was going to stick Ichi in there, but I don't think it'd be suitable for this genre)

Yes, The Godfather should also be in my list.

How could I forget about that one?

On the Waterfront
True Romance
Departed

Goodfellas

could've made my list too.

Godfather
Godfather 2
Infernal Affairs
Scarface
Goodfellas

(I was going to stick Ichi in there, but I don't think it'd be suitable for this genre)

I dont see why not - it is a gangster movie without doubt. Which one would you replace?

Much as I love that film I wouldnt have it in there though. Id go:

Godfather / II
Scarface
Goodfellas
A Bittersweet Life

A Bittersweet Life was good, but I'd have Ichi over that everyday of the week. As for what would I replace it with. . .probably Goodfellas, just for variety.

I am a sucker for beautiful cinematography, that's why I think it wins out for me. I have developed something of an obsession for Korean films in general for that reason - always stronger than Japanese films in that respect.

Watched The Black Dahlia recently too which was enjoyable for that reason, though the relatively weak / dull plot would prevent it being in a list like this one.

For variety I would like to make an honorary mention of Boyz in the Hood. Great film.

I thought the cinematography in Ichi was even better than in Bittersweet Liife. As for Korean cinema, I reckon I've exhausted that front. Loved most of the films I saw. My Sassy Girl probably being the best. Oh I think I've yet to see Taekukgi - The Brotherhood of War (bought it on DVD a couple of months ago).

Agree RE Boyz in the Hood.

Godfather 2
Godfather
The Departed
Scarface
Goodfellas

Tough list, I could have included ten more. It`s probably the genre I enjoy the most.

Robocop
Goodfellas
The Godfather
Scarface
True Romance

(Not necessarily in that order.)

Because a) US mob movies dominate this genre so much, b) this is my favourite genre and c) im a sad cnut, I have played with the mandate of this thread a little. Favourite gangster/ cops and robbers/ organised crime movies but no two from the same country. I have come up with a top 10. In no order (except working roughly east to west geographically)

New Zealand - Once Were Warriors
Australia - Chopper
Japan - Ichi the Killer
Korea - A Bittersweet Life
China - Hard Boiled
Thailand - Ong Bak
India - Don
UK - The Long Good Friday
US - Scarface
Brazil - City of God

1 - The Godfather Part II

2 - Scarface

3 - The Godfather Part I

4 - Carlito's Way

5 - Goodfellas

I would like to give a special mention to 'Donnie Brasco' starring Al Pacino and Johnny Depp. I've seen it quite a few times but I don't think I'll ever get bored with it.

True Romance
Good call on Donnie Brasco
Casino
Goodfella's
