Anyone else think ther's too many or do you all think it's great. Do ou all see a great piece of actionor goal and then write on here that we should sign him

Take Hofland for instance, you've all seen him play right?? He was good or not???

So you saw him play one good match, this was probably the Dutch League comp. feckin Dutch league is the worst league in the world only surpassed by the Berger Isthmian League

Wish we could get more players like that, maybe a couple from Scotland while were at it, at least we qould be keeping it British

Should we tell Ruud to feck off. Hell, we could tell Keane to leave as well, for I doubt he would like you calling him British.

The quality of the PL has improved dramatically over the years, no doubt due to more foreigners playing in the league. It took years for PL to catch up with the Serie A, La Liga just because of that.

I hope you're not serious about what you've said though, StanleyRoad, oh, and the PL trophy being plastic. ;)

Stan has a good point. It is in United's best interest to seek out players from the British Isles first before we go abroad. It helps from a linguistic perspective and builds better over all comaraderie and esprit de corps amongst the players, as well as club and fan base.

On the other hand, we also have to be able to access talented players from abroad when we can't get them closer to home. If we abandoned the foreign talent angle then our competitors in the Prem and all over Europe would eventually gain access to the players we don't.

We have to strike a fine balance between both brit and non brit players.

Good points often fall on dear ears when you use such a tone. Lets face it, no one in here (or at United) has ever said they want to give up on English/British talent. However, if it is not there, United will have to look elsewhere. You have to work on being a politician.

Developing local talent requires patience, money, and the willingness to err occasionally on the talent and prospects of some in an effort to find the few who will progress to EPL standards. Frankly, most big clubs (and their fans) don't have the desire to wait that long and work that hard. It's much easier to import someone to fill your needs and let lower division or less well financed clubs develop the talent for the rich guys.

I remember a recent thread on needs of United, and not one of the players suggested as a panacea for the current ailments was English. While one can observe a "higher level of play" in the EPL than in the First Division in, say 1977, the same can be said of all major European top divisions, and one is not hopelessly racist or nationalistic to wonder if limiting the number of "foreign" players would be wise--if enforced against all clubs.

I remember, vaguely, the Champions Cup match in (I think it was 1977) between Liverpool and Moenchengladbach (sp?). The game was truely meaningful (in Germany, where I was stationed at the time) because it pitted a basically German team against a primarily English side, and showed the divergent national styles of play. The current CL format has various collections of international stars battling each other. The play might be better, but a lot of the edge and emotion seems to be removed and fans must be questioning their loyalty to a given squad.
