ESPN soccer caller Tommy Smyth has made his strongest indication yet that he would be prepared to step in to either take over from Sir Alex or act in an advisory capacity to help Man Utd through their latest crisis.
"Man Utd have been one of the best football clubs in the world since soccer began in 1993 with my arrival at ESPN" The knowledge challenged match caller stated. "I think my viewers will know that I have been handing out advice about where United and Lord Fergerson have been going wrong for years. If only he had listened before, Man Utd might not be in the mess they are in now. Relegation is a disgrace for such a big club" he said while picking a nifty little tune on the banjo he keeps from his time as an actor in the American classic Deliverance.
There are however details still to be ironed out. His demand that he coach and managed from the studio in California is a particular sticking point. However Tommy is adamant "I've never been to a live game yet and I have no intention of starting now. Even if it is for Man Utd".
Some of his other demands might also be difficult for the United heirachy to accept. In particular that Giggs be sold because he hasn't been getting to the "dead ball line" enough and that Scholes be swapped for Thuram because he hasn't been sticking it in the back of the "onion bag" sufficiently often. However, he has stated that he is prepared to buy his own copy of Championship Manager.
