EX-WYCOMBE loanee goalkeeper Tom Heaton has been released by Manchester United.

The impressive stopper excelled after joining Wanderers in January and was a close contender for Player of the Season.

But opportunities had been limited at Old Trafford for the 24-year-old and he is reported to have been released by the Premier League giants.

But before Blues fans get excited, Championship side Swansea City are reported to be winning the race for his signature.

Swans boss Paulo Sousa knows the England U21 international as he brought him to QPR in 2009 on loan before being sacked.

best of luck to him ..
saw his interview on mutv earlier in the year and it was clear that he knew he was going to be released .. hope he finds a good club
league 1 is almost a cert. .. hope he can get a lower championship club

That leaves VDS, who is in his last year and PIG.

We must be in for another 'Keeper this summer or in January. Any thoughts on wether it will be a First Choice or backup for a promoted PIG?

Fergie has send Ben Amos will be third choice this season. I would expect a move for a new keeper next summer presuming this is VDS's last year.

Amos is still with us. He's going to be the new third choice.

I imagine we might see PIG a bit more this season, as Fergie assesses whether he's good enough to take over or not. If he is, he'll be first choice, with Amos as back-up. If not, then we'll see the new GK in the summer.

joined cardiff ..
great move for him .. assuming he will be 2nd choice .. hope he gets his chance soon

BBC Sport - Football - Man Utd goalkeeper Tom Heaton returns to Cardiff City

this bit is interesting

Boss Dave Jones told Cardiff's website: "United had offered him a new contract, but Tom's attitude was that he wanted to play, which says a lot about him."

Presumably if he'd accepted the new contract then he would have been third choice for next season with Amos going out on loan.

Still, you can perfectly understand why he felt it was the right time to move on and I hope he does well.

Question to those who've seen a lot more of him than me how good has the kid become? He's not first choice at Cardiff is he? He's obviously got a lot of exposure after his penalty saving antics in the Semi and again today against Gerrard.

Fair to say he's the best keeper to come from our youth setup (counting the likes of Steele & Amos)?

Depends how far back you go - I wouldn't automatically say that he is better than - say Gary Walsh.

If Ron-Robert Zieler counts he's by far the best.

I would count Zieler given we signed him at 16 and at a younger age than Luke Steele.

I always thought Amos looked better than Zieler when they were in the Academy and Reserves together but you have to give the latter the credit for stepping up with Hanover.

FWIW, Amos is better than Heaton.

Amos imo just hasn't got the chance.

I was pretty impressed with him a couple of times.
