Today i am going to analyse main reasons why Liverpool are on top of the table and are doing so well this season :

+ The first main reason is :
- Jurgen Klopp rebuild and left a really strong XI and squad to Slot.
- Allison, one of the best goalkeeper out there
- The back line of Trent, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson are just top class and quality. Like Allison all ex champion league winner.
- Salah still top and world class RW and attacking player
- midfield players on very good levela and above. McAllister, Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Szobo
- attacking 3 front of Salah, Diaz and Jota/Nunez are top class too.

So no rocket science analyzing need. That XI are still top class.

+ Now analysing the qualities of the Liverpool squad klopp rebuild and left :
- If you play a cm midfield trio of : Szobo - Gravenberch - McAllister. Then Curtis will be on the bench or will rotate with Szobo or McAllister = Jones a very good squad/rotating player.
- Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliot as squad player. 2 really good cm player. Endo as DM and Elliot as RCM and box to box cm player.
- Right back back up in Conor Bradley. A really good upcoming RB.
- Joe Gomez and Quansah as squad CB options. Above good level of those 2
- In attack. Liverpool have Gakpo who is fighting with Diaz for the LW position at the same time a CF option.
- Then Liverpool have one of the sharpest and clinical finisher in premier with Diogo Jota
- And the new signing Federico Chiesa still not play at much yet.

So sum up Liverpool have 16-17 really good players in the squad. This group will and did helped Liverpool to got top 4 last season and be in top 3 this season. We are talking about ex champion league winner. Many of them are still on a really high level.

+ Klopp left a really and well worked defend back line/4, machine and team to Slot :
To be on top of premier league table. A team shall be well organized, well together as a team and unit. Understand each others. Like Chelsea. Chelsea were starting playing really well in the end of last season under Pochettino. And Chelsea keep the momentum going this season.
Everything need time to gel together. To be well organized and strong unit.

Here is the list when Liverpool GK and their world class Back line/4 joined them:

- Allison Becker : Joined Liverpool July 2018
- Trent Alexander : A Liverpool product. From their academy
- Van Dijk : Joined Liverpool January 2018
- Robertson : Joined Liverpool July 2017
- Konate : Joined Liverpool July 2021

Execpt of Konate who joined in 2021 to replace Matip. Playing together so many years since 2018/21. You can't complain that you don't understand each others.
Again we are talking about ex champion leauge winner and world best club back line and defend 4. No new boy and inexperience new comer. Top top class defenders and football players.

---------------------------------------------------

+ Now to Slot. What difference has he done? Tactical?

Liverpool is not open as a team under Slot than Klopp. Klopp was Rock N Roll and Heavy Metal football. The speed and guts pedal on bottom. Slot is a little more control football and not give many chances away.

Jurgen Klopp last league matches:
- 27.04.24 away vs West Ham : 2-2
- 05.05.24: Home vs Spurs : 4-2
- 13.05.24 : Away vs Aston Villa : 3-3
- 19.05.24 : Home vs Wolves : 2 - 0

Results under Slot :
0-2 win, 2-0 win, 0-3 win, 0-1 lost, 3-0 win, 1-2 win, 0-1 win, 2-1 win, 2-2 draw, 2-1 win and 2-0 win

Again, like above. Klopp play more rock N roll football and more open football. With a really often with a really high back line. It makes Liverpool vulernable for counter attack. Liverpool conceded 7 goals in last 4 matches under Klopp.
So that is one of the tactical decision of Slot. More control football and not give many chances away.

---------------------------

+ Slot this season so far has brought more physical and stronger player to XI. How?

- Konate didn't play against :
- 27.04.24 away vs West Ham : 2-2
- 05.05.24: Home vs Spurs : 4-2
- 13.05.24 : Away vs Aston Villa : 3-3
- 19.05.24 : Home vs Wolves : 2 - 0

Konate was on the bench in all those last 4 games of Klopp. Can be a reason why Liverpool concede so many goals in Klopp last matches? And Konate is just a physical beast. Konate might sometime look a bit clumsy. But Konate is really strong. A powerful CB with decend and high speed.
- More physical with Ryan Gravenberch in cm midfield area too. Gravenberch is 190 cm tall. Not a small boy.

So both of Konate and Gravenberch into the XI starting line. More regular starter. Slot has add more power and strength to the XI line up. And both of those 2 players are not slow too.

Football stats of Konate and Gravenberch this season so far :

Konate : 11 starter of 11 league matches = 885 minutes. 1 goal and 1 assist
Gravenberch: 11 starter of 11 matches = 990 minutes.

Football stats of Konate and Gravenberch under Jurgen Klopp. Season 23/24:

Konate : 18 matches and 17 starter = 1551 minutes.
Gravenberch : 26 matches 12 starter = 1116 minutes. 1 goal

I do recognized that Gravenberch was suffer a lot of injury last season. But he was in the match day squad for 26 matches. But with only 1116 minutes playing time.

So clearly. With Gravenberch from Holland and Dutch too like Slot. It might be a key factor. Slot trush Gravenberch and Konate more than Klopp.
Again more physical, power and strength under Slot than Klopp. One of key factor why Slot team concede lesser goals than under Klopp. Beside Slot more controlling football.

+ Now, this factor is about luck. Slot has be lucky with no or few injuries of Liverpool's so call key players. Slot has nearly his best XI and best 15-16 players available so far this season.

Compare to Manchester City injury list:
Rodri
Kevin De Bruyne
Oscar Bobb
Ruben Dias

Arsenal injurdy list :
Martin Ødegaard

So lucky with injuries of key players of your biggest and strongest rivals. In Arsenal and City. One of key factor why those 2 teams underperformance. Lost more matches than Liverpool and are behind Liverpool on the table.
In others words. Both of City and Arsenal have delivered poor performances and results than Liverpool. No deep analysing here.

I think i have come to the end of main reasons of why Liverpool are on top of the table and why they are doing so well this season.

Then the cliche is:
You don't fix what is not broken = Klopp left a really worked, strong and gel team and squad. Slot didn't fix nearly anything at all. He just brought Chiesa and play Konate and Gravenberch more regular.
Slot brought more power and strenght to a already well worked team. More compact, controll, not as open and lesser chances give away.
Slot usual result so far: 2-0. 1-0, 2-0 and 2-1.

So. Slot team didn't score as much as Klopp team. But Slot team clearly concede a lot lesser goals. Slot team have only concede 6 goals of 11 matches so far. So the defensive so far is more tight, powerful and harder to beat under Klopp.

Hope you guys my analysing of Slot's Liverpool qualities and strength.

In short sentence : Slot team have really few weakness. Lesser weakness than City and Arsenal. Because of the injuries of those 2 teams. By Liverpool isolate is a really close to complete team as you can get. Not much you can complain about theirs XI:

Liverpool 433 line up :

Allison

Alexander/Bradley - Konate - Van Dijk - Robertson + Szobo/Jones - Gravenberch - McAllister/Jones + Salah - Jota/Nunez/Gakpo - Diaz/Gakpo

This XI is at closest to complete as team you can get.

A definition of a complete team = A team with no or just few weakness = not much you can fix or develop = So do not bring to many new players. Slot just followed it and follow that principle and receipe.
But if Slot start to overthink and fix a lot = it might has a negative and opposite effect. Slot was just be carefully with the top ingredients and factors that were on place for him. When he took over.

A already well organized and well get team and unit. Someone today a well organize "structure " and a well work structure/set up/line up.

Isn't it because they have referees, VAR, Media, the FA etc all on their side??

While we keep putting up with Rashford, and pay a fortune for Anthony . . . they have a brilliant 50 million Euro bargain Lucho Diaz

They got Mac Allister . . . and we paid like twice as much for Mount

They keep bringing in forwards like Jota, Gapko and Nuñez, who bang them in . . . while we pay much more the likes of Hojlund and Zirkzee

“Liverpool’s success this season is due to Slot building on Klopp’s strong foundation, adding a more controlled style and physical players like Konate and Gravenberch. This has tightened their defense, resulting in fewer goals conceded. Minimal injuries and rival teams facing setbacks have also contributed, making Liverpool’s squad one of the most complete in the league.“

Brought to you by technology. Hope this helps :D

Most of their tougher fixtures have all been at Anfield. They have had a really favourable fixture list so far, lots of easy teams at the start of the season which allowed them to build momentum, then any tough games that they had on the run have been home games.

They actually (along with us) have the deepest squad to deal with injury concerns.

Arsenal and City do not. City have gone into the season with a woefully short squad and then when injuries start, it only gets worse.

I want to see how Slot does when times get tough. What happens when the injuries pile up. How does he handle the group's mentality when they lose or draw more. How does he handle the Salah situation? It's all very Ole at the moment. I reserve my judgement of his ability to manage Liverpool until March.

New manger syndrome. The focus has shifted from shiny teeth to shiny head. But once the players get used to it, the true Slot will get exposed.

  • A favourable start to the season
  • Good management
  • Opposition players being injured (Odegaard, Rodri)
  • Salah in form
  • Being jammy bast....
