feck off and go and watch some other team, where were you in 1974 when we were in division 2 eh????????? You don't know the meaning of the words 'poor team'. If you can't get behind SAF and his team, go to Highbury if its GLORY you are after. Long may our poor form continue, then us 'real' fans can have our club back.
Theres only one Bryan Robson.........

Although I think your sentiments are correct.

I think you are a knob for trying to reopen the 'Real fans' debate.

Whats to say you arent a recent supporter?

I dont have to answer to you 'shit for brains', its about time we got back to the great days of supporting United, winning the odd FA cup, non stop singing, and NO arseholes that dont know the meaning of defeat.

Criticising United doesnt necessarily mean you dont still love em to bits.....

I remember pulling my hair out a few times in the 80's.....

But cant you see that you wont eradicate the recent fans.

Its been tried on here on numerous occasions.

I personally cant remember 1974.

It doesnt mean you arent a fan just because you vent your anger at a team playing like a Sunday league team at the moment.

To hear some people talk you'd think that no supporter in the 70s and 80s ever whinged.

In the 26 years of little success, everything in the garden was rosy, and as every season went on and it became apparent that the league championship was passing us by again, Old Trafford was full of smiling supporters who didn't dream of criticising the players, or whatever manager was there at the time.

Bollox!!!

I don't agree with all the knee-jerk reactions - but any criticism is met with a barrage of abuse here.

i think u r a real arse for trying to re open the "im a real fan u r not" shit. just because i get pissed at lossing to boltan at home doesnt mean i dont support man utd, just because im too young to remember 1974 doent mean i dont love the club, the team should beat boltan and play better and u know it

Back then, the media wasn't as prevalent and there wasn't an internet yet so it didn't seem as bad as it does now, however, I'd bet there was as much f'kin moaning and whinging on the terraces then as there is now. I think though, back then, it was easier to deal with because it was a common occurance not to win owt, unlike recently.

I feel your pain Roxy,

A lot of ppl go right overboard as soon as we get a bad result. I remember last October it was great in here, the sunshine boys fuched off for a week or two after the Chelsea game, was quaint.

First of all i wasn't born in until 1977 so if that makes me a glory supporter then their's feck all i can do about it.
If you actually bothered to read most of the critical posts about the team at the moment you'll find that they are constructive, and seeing that we pay a lot of our cash to the team we have every right to be critical, if the team are not displaying the effort that their high wage packets should demand.
I agree that we should not be critical if the team are playing well and not winning but if they are not putting the effort then we have every right to question them. Becks realises that and that is why he appologised for his mistake.

Just send them off to have a word with Alan Brazil about how well we used to whinge :) I gave him a hell of a lot of abuse during his thankfully short tenure.

United fans have always supported the team when they've won or lost as long as they are giving their all. Certain members of the current team are letting us all down, and given we are making them all multi millionaires with our hard earned money we have every right to vent our spleen when they don't pull their weight. Anyone who says otherwise is a muppet and deserves to drown in a bed of maltesers.

Not during the match I hope?!

Whilst forums such as this are ideal for venting your anger, giving your opinion etc., during a game definitely isn't!

.........who has himself issue an open challenge to Seba to come up with the goods & dominate the centre of the park...I was there in the lean years & there is a lot to the criticism of glory huntters BUT I must say it has been nice at the top & I was hoping to stay in contention a while longer .. esp in light of the talent we have....Is that wrong?

I often browse and participate on here Roxyfella and 90% are fine but speaking even as an outsider - you are a right wanker , with your 'real ' fan bollocks .

Mind you, I would note that you are a 'real' one ( as that's important to you ) and not a plastic one wanker , who might just be pretending to be one .!!!!!!

Yes a REAL wanker from the 70's .

I don't think I need to talk to any other Man Utd fans now ................you are obviously the

ONLY ONE.

feckinhell boy ( although clearly older than that )... grow up

I've been supporting United since '69 so I think I've 'earned' more right to comment about United than you, roxyfella.
;)

And as Livvie, Forza Viola & Ever hopefull have rightly pointed out, there's nothing wrong in 'bitching' about the team we support - that's passion for you & it doesn't mean we're less loyal.

I think most of the older supporters have seen & experienced the United of the past where year- in, year-out, we flattered to deceive, so once 'real' success finally came, we're paranoid that it'll disappear all too soon!

United held on too long to a successful, but ageing team back in the late sixties. The ultimate was obviously the European Cup win in '68!

However, ruthless self-renewal which was essential in creating freshness, competition & upgrading, gave way to sentiments & complacency back then, & the rot couldn't stop which resulted in the ignominy of relegation in '74!

We older supporters are worried that we're possibly seeing the same sentiments & signs creeping in as well.

The squad is getting older, some players are having the impression they're permanent fixtures regardless of how they play, & I honestly feel that a couple are getting stale & need new challenges elsewhere & we need a couple more of new 'International Class' players to come in to add to the squad.

Fergie missed that opportunity this summer, didn't he?

Thats a great post mate and I echo your thoughts fully. Yes, we are all a little frustrated not only by the performance but also the lack of a renewal of freshness and spirit (Yes the summer was frustrating). But the fact of saying what we feel is a way of expressing our true love for the team.

Sometimes it drives me up the wall to hear these people (Roxyfella/corelive) slagging off others as "gloryhunters" or not being "real" supporters. It is this abused perception of thinking that only they are the "true" ones which shows how unsecure they themselves are. But by reacting (as I have unfortunately done sometimes in the past) we lower ourselves to their level. I feel that its just not worth justifying "why" and "since when" we support the club. We all LOVE this club and want to do well and have the right to support it in our own way without having to justify to others. We always get behind them as soon as they are on the pitch and thats what they need now!!!

BRING ON THE SHEEP!!!!!!!

COME ON UNITED !!!!!

Cheers for the compliments, Sunny.

But to clarify, I don't mean to say that the younger supporters have less right to support United or are 'glory-hunters'.

PS - BTW, what's wrong with being a 'glory-hunter'?

Many people start to support a club because they're successful or play attractive football, & then become life-long supporters after that, regardless of how the club does subsequently!

I have friends who still support Derby  because of their successes in the early 70s!

Also, religious leaders will tell us that 'it's not how or why we choose a religion, as long as we end up believing!'

Ditto support for football clubs, I suppose? ;)

I remember one game (I am sure it was Arse away, first game relegation year, lost 3-0 - but I'm probably wrong) when Paddy Roche made a couple of mistakes. The crowd sang for him during the game but after we left and were going back to the station most of the singing was for Stepney. Paddy, unfortunately, wasn't up to it and the Doc was trying to replace Alex. We also had Tommy O'Neill and various others who weren't good enough. And this was only five years after winning the European Cup
