time United played 3 at the back?

It's something to think about....we have already played without fullbacks and with 3 central defenders twice this season...admittedly only for 5 or 10 minutes chasing a game.
Where does our defensive strength lie...in the centre. Even our two best full-backs(Silvestre&GazNev) are really frustrated centre-backs anyway.
At the moment with injuries and even without we have no real depth at full-back.
Think of the possibilities if we play 3 centrally at the back...5 in midfield and still 2 up front!
3-5-2...5-3-2...fit the players in at will...Beckham and Giggs as wingbacks anybody?....No?...why not...they both work hard defensively and can work from deep(Giggs with his dribbling and running,Becks with his long range passing).
The key is we play to our stengths and personnel.
Maximum quality in defence, midfield and attack.

Looks great on paper, and nice in theory providing Butt or Keane played a Ramelow style holding role, but I fear Becks and Giggs would just get pinned deep. When Becks played there for England he barely ventured over the halfway line until the ball was in the opposition box...

I wouldn't want Bex as a RWB, he can't tackle for shit. He's a grafter and he'll get in the opposition players way, but if the left winger has a bit of pace & trickery, which they invariably do, he'd be fecked.

How about 3-2-3-2

John - - Rio - - Larry
- Nicky - - - Keano -
Bex - JSV/PS - Giggsy
- - - Ole - Ruud - - -

;)

What he does like doing is charging a player down. Has anyone else noticed his little habit of running to the player like a headless chicken to put him off a long ball ? Looks well funny. :D
