Thuram: "Thuram can go to United" says agent

Lilian Thuram is considering an offer from Manchester United.

The player's agent Oscar Damiani say the French star "can go" to United after the World Cup finals.

Thuram had strong interest from United last summer before opting to join Juventus from Parma AC but he is now unhappy over his use at the Turin club and is played regularly out of position.

The centre back is a target for United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to replace retiring French veteran Laurent Blanc.

Ferguson failed to persuade the United board to back his transfer plan for Thuram last summer as they doubted his wage demands were good value at the player's age.

The success of the Blanc move for Ferguson means the board may back a Thuram move and the Frenchman is a definite transfer target for the Champions League semi finalists.

Damiani also say Milan have cooled on interest in Thuram as they intend to keep striker Andriy Shevchenko for at least another season and this restricts their transfer spending plans.

I'd be happy with Thuram. Cut price deal mind - 10m max!

Do you honestly believe his value has dropped 12m in a year?

I say we should pay up to 15m as he could play for 5 more years.

It was tongue in cheek - hence the exclamation mark. But anyway, I think the days of ridiculous transfer fees will soon be over - it's ruining the clubs, the game and I think most recogise that it can't go on. Italians always pay stupid money anyway so the original Thuram fee was one of those unrealistic ones. If he wants to leave Juve, then I think they'll accept a compromise - say 10m!

His valuation was never 23m to begin with. Juventus just decided to splash down that amount to chase off any competition. He should've gone in the 15-17m range last year.

Move over Arsenal's twin towers.

I could have told the idiot last year that United would be his best bet and not Juventus, let's hope he is not as stupid as he seems if he does join us.

He's everything but stupid. He's really a great guy, very clever, who has always much to say.

Where does the Paul McGrath like John O'Shea come in all of this???????
Blanc- Johnsen - Brown and O'Shea sounds allright to me.

The transfer fee's are going to rise if this wage cap comes in cause the players will ask for a bigger sell on fee, plus the agent will want more cause he'll be getting less from the player. It's a vicous circle.

I still don't feel 100% confident with Wes. But -

Neville
2 from Thuram/Johnsen/O'Shea/Brown
Silvestre

doesn't seem too bad.

You can't rely on Blanc who says he's quitting anyway.

You guys have too much confidence in Brown and O''Shea.O'Shea maybe something in the future but Brown have blown it.

Brown and O'Shea are both young and inexperience, but also very good considering the number of first team games they've played. Defenders reach their peak when they're about 28 I think, so its useless comparing them to Ayala or Thuram. Its also stupid judging a player on a couple of own goals, and interference with their game by another player (barthez). Try to have a longer memory than that please.

I'd love to see Ayala-thuram in defence but it wont happen cos the board wont sanction that kind of spending as well as another striker, unless someone gets sold ie Veron. Both are great defenders and both would be an asset to help bring O'Shea through, if he gets a run of games he'll be an excellent player but he needs to be given the chance. :D

I would only buy Thuram if he cost around 7M, Blanc could be staying for another year. anything more would be a waste of money

So if Juve offered Thuram for £12m you'd turn them down?
Thuram's an excellant defender, and rarely gets booked (before he moved to Juve, he's gotten 1 yellow card in his career!!). His style is perfect for the Premiership.

Surely that can't be correct.....???!

Ayala - Thuram that would be a mean combination, feck henc-who and hyypia!

The grit and pure tough bastard mentality of ayala and the skill and precision of thuram. What more do we want.

Yeah,

Sounds good to me Thuram and Johnson in middle with Gary Neville on the right and what about Placente at left back, I was really impressed with him last Wednesday, he had Veron in his pocket all night.

Juve will only sell us Thuram if we drop our interest in both Nesta and Cannavaro. We won't get Cannavaro but Nesta looks on his way unless Blanc influences Sir Alex otherwse to choose Thuram!

Will be holding the infamous megastore scarf in the very near future :D

He is old and not cheap!
He is not the best CB, although he is a great RB.
Hofland or Nesta are better!

Hofland is better than Thuram.

Have to agree with Raoul. On the evidance of this year's performances in the Dutch League, Hoffland isn't good enough for United. And Thuram is actually better employed in the middle. Does anyone remember him at Parma, or are you all EPL freeks who believe that Spaniards just take drugs and Italians are boring. From what some people post, I think they've never seen him play in the middle.

Thuram and Ayala sounds brilliant to me.

I am not a Die Hard United fan and, being more objective, I have to say that defense looks shaky. From midfield up United are fine and can break any opposition but when the other side stops respecting them they discover some awful defending, particularly when Keane is not around to sort everything out and fill the gaps.

Just look at the Leverkusen game!

Man Utd would be better off spending some money and sorting that out than tinkering with has-beens and might-bes.

Although he plays on the right for France, Thuram is easilyone of the BEST CB's in the world. All you have to do is to see his history with Monaco
