Thought Kenyon had said United wouldn't be interested in players over the age of 28? Guess we'll find out soon...

World soccer News's only advantage over Tribalfootball is that is has a better and more respectable name. Other than that - The news are just as reliable.

I'd be glad about that...

Ferguson has been very keen on Thuram in the past and frankly I can see this being as the most likely signing re CBs.

Face it, everyone. Rio will not come. Ayala will not come. Thuram will. Blanc will go.

Expectations for big signings are pie in the sky.

I'm starting to wonder if the Giggs/Thuram swap deal has some truth to it, with Giggs being the July 5th inspirational player shock.

We already need a back up/competition for Giggs. I hope it isn't him, if indeed it is anyone at all.

Since when is Thuram not a big signing?

He's a big signing, just not quite as big as Nesta or Ferdinand would be.

Thing is with Thuram for me is that he's a RB and he's moving on the basis that he gets the CB spot. That worries me a little. If he's that good at CB why is he played at RB by his last two clubs and his country?

Thuram is a CB. He's only played RB for France and parts of the last season for Juve. He was superb as CB for Parma.

He played centerhalf for Parma.

As for France, it's rather simple: Roger Lemerre didn't want to change. Just like when he lost Zidane he tried to fill his shoes with Micoud or Djorkaeff, rather than to change his formation, when he lost Blanc he wanted to put in a direct replacement (Lebouef) rather than to change another position in the back 4 (Thuram to the center and someone instead of him on the right).

Where it got to a critical point, when his other options for the centerhalf position were Christanval and Silvestre, he finally made the change. Too late.

As for Juventus, I do not know. He started at the center and there weren't any problems, but at a certain time he was moved to the right, Juventus got into a winning streak and... Lippi wouldn't change a winning formula I suppose.

In that case if you're both sure of your facts, I stand corrected and have to say that Thuram would still be a great signing for us.

and it's reprinted from the Sun!!!!!!! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

We should make a list of publications who routinely post crap that shouldn't be posted on here.

Exactly. All these stories are coming from the shitty news-sites, which need to make these stories up to attract any visitors at all.

I love the silly season! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

I've got an idea... Why don't we sign absolutely nobody? ;)

Not quite true, I think he said something to the effect that United would not pay silly money for players over 28 yrs.

I wouldn't mind United signing Thuram. As I posted somewhere else he IS quality.
Many people are probably not that excited with all the talk of Nesta and Ferdinand.
Fact is that the excitement surrounding these names come from the fact that we haven't discussed them until this summer.
We went through the Thuram thing this time last year. As such - not as much excitement second time around.
But he's still better than any defender we currently have at Old Trafford. That is, assuming we don't pay Kenyon's 'silly money' to get him at the expense of strengthening elsewhere.
The only real thing that would bug me about Thuram is his age (the same age as me, what am I saying!). Perhaps it would be better going for someone with more years ahead of him? Then again, maybe United just won't be able to get them...

Thuram would be beneficial for our defense as a whole. He would be sufficient cover for Gary and he could also play his desired cb role. If his age is a problem why do we keep Blanc?

Sense! ;)

1. Thuram was shit in the World Cup. Poor positioning and too slow. With the "suicide football" United play defensively leaving only Blanc and his partner in our half when launching attacks we would be caught badly, regularly if the two were slow. Blanc is already slow. We don't need to add Thuram.

2. Nesta and Tudor are the only man markers on the continent who are good enough and young enough and fast enough to be good partners for Blanc will given us a second attacking dimension from the back. Also, they rarely ever make mistakes ala Lucio, Stam etc. Blanc is the ultimate sweeper who needs a game reading partner, as comfortable as he is on the ball and as skillfull. Who is not as injury prone as Johnsen. Remember how solid we looked with thse two in the squad? i.e Ronnie and Larry.
That is how Bruce and Pally were. Fergie needs to recreate it.
3. Rio is a sweeper like Blanc so the could never play together. And Blanc IS Fergie's first choice defender end of story.
4. Mexes is the next Blanc with speed this time. The lad wants to come to OT. Blanc is his idol. His manager WANTS to sell him to Man Utd only. And he can replce Blanc next season at a afar cheaper price than 35m for Ferdinand who is a similar player to Blanc. Hence for me Mexes is the better investment.
5. Remeber, Brown and O'shea would learn from the Best if Blanc and Nesta/Tudor were in our defence.
6. United would have the bset dfence in europe for years to come. what more do you need :)

If he does come & plays in the centre I hope he plays better than he did in the WC.....having said that he would need time to get back in the groove I suppose... but he was NOT impressive... :( :(

Henry was also not impressive but i don't see Wenger giving him the boot.

I don't think I've ever heard it called that before. Kemo manages to outdo himself! Amazing. Cue an annoyed Giggsy.

No one can blame Henry. The supply from the French midfield was pathetic. Besides. we ll know he is not the greatest of finishers. Just arsenla produce thousands of chances that the would make ade akinibiyi look good. (Thogh I am not saying Henry is that poor in terms of finsihing ability)
But thgurma was to blame indirectly or directly for all frances's conceded goals at the world cup. Being caught for pace and guile :(

dans if u are so smart then prove it ... u are jus trying to be a pain in the ass for everyone here ... can't u say something constructive instead???
