So with very little of the transfer window elapsed already quite a bit has happened, the below is a list of supposed targets that we've been most heavily linked with this summer

Phil Jones - Signed
Ashley Young - Signed?
David De Gea - Signed?
Alexis Sanchez - Gone to Barcelona?
Luka Modric - Possibly Chelsea bound or maybe not for sale?
Raphael Varane - ???
Wesley Sneijder - ???

So from those that we've been most heavily linked with 3 have all but signed, 2 look like they've got away and 2 still up in the air, once Sanchez is confirmed to Barca where do you think the club will turn it's attention to? Possibly making confirmed moves for Varane and Sneijder? Move onto other targets? Or for SAF to come out and declare our summer spending over?

I'd settle for one of Mata, Martinez, M'Villa or Benega plus the other three mentioned and be absolutely delighted.

Not too arsed about Modric and Sanchez tbh.

We'll sign whoever Barca, Madrid and Chelski decide are not a priority probably.

Unknowns I expect.

We have get players before they become too obviously good and go elsewhere. We've missed out badly in the last few seasons.

For every Hernandez, there is a Bebe and an Obertan. Still WELL worth it though!

Phil Jones, De Gea, Modric & Ashley Young would make this a brilliant summer.

Javi Martinez would just make it perfect.

Hazard would be perfect. He'd be a left footer who would add balance to the team, play centrally and also open up teams through his dribbling, which we rely too heavily on Nani for atm. He'll basically be Sanchez without actually impacting on Nani's prospects.

Whats more, with Barca, Real (if they get Aguero &/or Neymar), and possibly Chelsea (Lukaku and Modric - FFP Regs) out of the way, we may have a very decent chance of getting him. City may look at him as an alternative to Sanchez, and Arsenal may do aswell if Nasri goes (doubtful with Ramsey and Wilshere possibly elevating themselves to the next level). But we have a just as big a chance as both teams, and whats more we have the added advantage of actually have a very good, to excellent foundation to build on with us being Champions and ECL Finalists, and also a genuine opening available to him in the First XI...

I would imagine if we were interested in Hazard the papers would have picked up on it by now, AFAIK the only side being linked with him is Arsenal.

I agree though from what I've read Brwned say on this forum Hazard could easily be as good as Sanchez for a snip of the price as well

That's me sold, come on guys to the Hazard thread.

Hazard will be the new Sanchez, Sneijder, Joaqin, Berbatov (threads) on here.

Thankfully the window has a long way to go as we have bought three players but only one of them was actually needed and he's a step down, however that was unavoidable.

Looking at the rumoured CM's I don't think we'll get either and I don't care. I think we should be looking more towards players like Banega and Martinez, maybe even that lad Vidal, one for playmaking and one to add some bite.

The fact we bid for Sanchez and inquired about Ozil hopefully means Fergie wants to add one more versatile attacker, the type that drifts between the lines, players like Mata and Hazard.

I think we'll still be in the market for another CM, but I cant see us picking up any of the ones we've recently been linked to. Nasri wil stay at Arsenal, Modric will go to Chelsea, Sneijder I'm not 100% sure but I think will probably still be at Inter next season.

I think in the next 2 weeks or so we'll see some murmurings of other targets though from agents and the like, and one of them will make sense when you piece it together, and that'll be the one we get. I have no idea who that'll be though.

Juan Mata has been really impressive at the U21, has anybody been linked to him yet. Would not mind seeing him in an United shirt.

Vidal hasn't gone anywhere as yet.

He wants to go to Bayern (said so himself) but Leverkusen stated that even if he left, which is unlikely, he'd leave Germany.

He's an FM legend but I don't think we'll go for him.

Fergie said 2 - 3 players. But from what I've read Jones was an unscheduled purchase. Think we'll end up with about 4. Jones, Young, De Gea seem likely, hopefully another central midfielder. I'm not hopeful about Modric.

I think once we sort out Young deal we will be done with transfers. Gill said that he wanted to go on vacation in June after getting deals done, we have basically secured three transfers already if various sources are to be believed so I think this will be it.

So you are saying we will not sign a CM? What does Gill going on Holiday have to do with anything? Are you suggesting we don't sign players because he wants to go on holiday?

No.

He goes on holiday because we signed players we wanted.

No.

He goes on holiday because we signed players we wanted.

That. A couple of weeks ago he stated that we would add two or three players, then he said that at some point in June he would go on Holiday after he got his job done. He apparently is on Holiday right now, and we have confirmed one signing already with two basically done as well (De Gea and Young).

I think midfield will stay as it is but O'Shea and Jones will get games there next season as our midfield four won't be able to play all the time, especially with doubtful fitness of both Fletcher and Anderson and Giggs being 38 years old.

We might try for Modric but we won't get him.

Sarni, if that happens then I'll have to say Fergie is taking the piss. That would be big-time wumming on his part.

I just pray we get an established, quality midfielder.

Me too.. there a fair few games last season when the midfield performance made me squirm in my seat, not including the big one against Barca..

As well as it all going very quiet on the incomings front it's also gone very quiet on the outgoings also, I would imagine the 3 Sunderland bid for will be leaving (albeit was it ever confirmed that their bid was accepted) but what about the others that are being linked with moves away?

Gibson > Sunderland?
Brown > Sunderland?
O'Shea > Sunderland?
PIG > ???
Nani > Inter or Juventus?
Berbatov > PSG or Spurs?

Personally I dont think the latter two will leave, just the media trying to fill their pages (we'd certainly be insane to sell Nani coming off the back of the season he's just had)

Maybe the fact it's gone quiet on both fronts means that despite the media aren't picking up on things doesn't mean things aren't happening transfer muppets rejoice!!!

To conclude, we've signed the half-decent targets but the good ones are going to other clubs

the problem is there's not many players who fit the criteria;

a) good enough to get into our first team
b) suits our style of play
c) doesn't play for a rival
d) we can afford the fee and the wages
e) wants to play for us

there's not many, if any, central midfielders that pass all of those.

Martinez would be perfect for us imo. Would not be too expensive, real are stocked on midfielders now and hopefully wont want to sign anymore, barca will have bought Sanchez/Fabregas. Hes young and a kind of better and younger version of Carrick and sits infront of the defence whilst Fletcher/Anderson/another new signing does the work.
