Truth like rain don't give a feck who it falls on.
I constantly get it, what am I doing that's having it come up? It's extremely annoying to refresh a page and scroll down to the bottom, start reading a post while the page is finishing loading and then all of a sudden it zips up to the top of the page to some post I've already read and I have to scroll down again to the one I was trying to read.

Sometimes, if I post and it does it, but then somebody posts right after me and starts a new page, it glitches and just scrolls up to the top of the page constantly, I scroll down, it scrolls back up, I scroll down again, it then scrolls back up until I delete the #post2153651 from the link.

What am I doing that's making this happen? So I can avoid it in future.

Thanks. :)

You are clicking the
firstnew.gif
icon which automatically jumps to the newest unread post. However, if there is a # in the URL (and it is not a shebang), and the URL matches that of the current page, it jumps to the appropriate anchor. This includes refreshes.

You can avoid it by clicking the thread title link to the thread rather than the
firstnew.gif
icon, and scrolling to the bottom.

Personally, I think it's legacy HTML stuff that no longer works for webpages that update within minutes or seconds (in the past, it was good but those webpages were updated in months or years, if at all) - browsers should really use anchors to "jump once, forget forever" - nothing more.

Just happened again in the Bin Laden thread, I noticed the #post212 thing so I deleted that part of the url and then pressed enter to load the url minus the #post bit, when it fully loaded the link was;

http://w ww.redcafe.net/f13/osama-bin-laden-dead-327959/index16.html#post9690669.

Before you refresh, click the 'Permalink' on the post you're currently reading. When you refresh it'll take you back to that post.
