They're taking the piss, especially considering the sale of players they've made.

The players haven´t been paid since June, either. They now want to pay their players every 3 months.

From Ananova:
Manchester United have begun legal proceedings against Lazio for non-payment of the transfer fee for Jaap Stam.

Gruppo Cirio, the Italian food company who have a controlling stake in the Rome club, were declared insolvent on Friday, leading to the suspension of trading in Lazio shares.

United say they are still owed £12million for the transfer of Stam at the beginning of last season.

A statement from the Old Trafford club said: "Manchester United Plc has noted the press coverage regarding the current financial situation of Gruppo Cirio, an Italian food group, which owns 35 per cent of SS Lazio.

"Manchester United has received no further payments from SS Lazio in respect of the £12million owed for the transfer to SS Lazio of the registration of Jaap Stam.

"Discussions have been ongoing to reach agreement for a rescheduling of the payment of this debt, and compensation for the delay, but these have still not reached a conclusion."

It added: "While these discussions are continuing, Manchester United has initiated legal proceedings in respect of the outstanding promissory notes from SS Lazio and in respect of the guarantee of the debt by Cirio Finanziaria Spa, a member of the Cirio group.

"Manchester United is working to ensure the discussions reach a satisfactory conclusion."

damned right.

they may yet be.</strong><hr></blockquote>
Mid-season? Do Italian clubs go into Administration in the same way that clubs like Leicester have?

Have they got any decent players left? It might be all that we can get since they seem to have no cash left.

blanc+stam.

the way it SHOULD have been ;)

At least we know how much the debt is now, £12m is quite a lot, more than Lopez on his own, more than Sorin on his own, but maybe less than the pair of them - isn't there a rule though that if players aren't paid for a certain amount of time then their contracts become void and they're on a free?

I thought that aswell Neil regarding no payment of contracts. I would much prefer Fergie to have 12 million quid than the pick of Lazio's squad although Nesta would have been nice or even Crespo.

Simeone... <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Not Stankovic anyway - TribalFootball:
Dejan Stankovic has confirmed he doesn't expect to leave Lazio in January, but is unsure about his future beyond this season.
The Yugoslavia international is a big-money target for Manchester United and Juventus after talks over an extension of his Lazio contract broke down last month.

"Here at Lazio I am happy," Stankovic told Corriere dello Sport yesterday.

"But my future will depend on the club.

"One thing I'm sure of is that I will not be leaving the club in January."

Nesta and Crespo are not in Lazio squad now.

Lopez and Sorin may not be a bad try. From the past experience, it seems whenever Fergie is given a large amount of money to spend he has at least 50% chance to buy a shit player ;)
