These "Guests"

it really slows the place down, don't think there is anything Niall can do about it though.

I know its annoying, but there are some united fans who can't sign up because they don't have the right email address. I know i had to wait till i changed provider before i could post here.

Maybe just on the 2 or 3 hours during and after K.O on matchday would be the solution.

Well, I find it annoying, but this site probably depends on the extra advertising revenue.

You can't stop guests coming to the site, but what I suspect you can do is make it impossible for guests to view threads. That way, they may be able to connect, but if they can't read anything then they'll not bother.

I don't know whether it can be made so that they can only not read things for the hours around a match, though, because it seems overkill to bar them the whole time.

Can guests use the New Post and Search functions? If so, then they should be disabled using matches.

They can pay a few £ for a real email then. I made one for a friend so they could sign up.

Didn't think this warranted a thread of it's own. just being curious, what's the general ratio of members to guests in the viewing figures?

Currently Active Users: 829 (191 members and 638 guests)

Not really a problem IMO, i know many forums that come here to check up on the latest news and matchday lineups to repost on their forums. Just some of the burden of being the no1 United site on the net.

Don't know why I didn't think of that, I look at it all the time.

Next question, any clue about ratios for different forums? It's just that at one stage today, there were 110 viewing the general, but no-one posting.

In order to post on the caf i had to get a job and use my work email... thats how much it meant to me!

i wouldnt have done that if i could never view the place.

Trust me, i've witnessed the death of a few forums, they occur when you start doing stuff like this.

I think its unfair to those who dont have a work email. We dont have an isp email

True, you'll get a lot of members who have registered just to view, then clear off again.

I've turned them off for matchdays in the past when the site went to a crawl, but the current server is a bit more capable of dealing with it. That said, that was when the record number of users online was around 1,500 and it's doubled that now. The trouble is, guests are welcomed because they click on ads and up the hit rate, so it would have to be done manually, and that needs someone around to do it.
