Therion

One of my all time favorites. Great combination of metal and more classical influences and a very intruiging band, with their Dragon Rouge involvement. And they also keep changing and evolving with every album.
Christofer Johnson fired everyone again after Gothic Kabbalah I think. Do you know anything about any upcoming projects? Has he found replacements already?

My favorite albums are probably Sirius B and Gothic Kabbalah. I've started listening to their pre-orchestral, pre-classical early works as well though lately. Completely different but if you like death metal, you'll like those albums as well.

My favorite songs:

Too bad Mats Leven decided to leave again though. Probably the best vocalist they ever had. And the female singer here is Aeshma Daeva's Lori Lewis if I'm not mistaking.

Fave album is Vovin - Rise of Sodom, Birth of Venus, Clavicula Nox, Draconian Trilogy some amazing tunes right there. Secret of the Runes is pretty consistent as an album also. Lemuria and Sirius B would make one great album amongst them, disappointed with Gothic Kabbalah.

Christofer Johnsson is a genius, agreed - as long as him and Kristian Niemann are around I'm happy.

They have a new album out since a few months, Sitra Ahra. Takes some listening to get in to and is not so accessible maybe as some of their previous albums, but I think it's brilliant. Lots of different vocal styles, bombast, choral pieces and some truly epic songs.

I'd expected something completely different since practically everyone was thrown out of the band after the last studio album. But even though the style of the album is a bit different, the sound is still trademark Therion. This album is supposed to be the end of a series (originally meant to be a trilogy Lemuria-Sirius B-Sitra Ahra but they added the Gothic Kabbalah double album right inbetween) and I read that some songs were even (partly) written at the time of Sirius B and Lemuria.

I do think this album is even more experimental and special compared to the previous ones and has more diversity as well.

And in the beginning of this month I finally saw them live as well. Was a bit of a dream come true to be honest. I've been trying to see them for a while now but the last years I never managed to get to one of their concerts in or around Belgium because of various reasons. Now I finally got there. It was a great mix of old and new songs. I think they played at least 4 songs of each album since Theli. So quite a long show as well. More than two hours if I recall correctly.
And to top it all off, they played my favorite song ever, The Voyage of Gurdjieff and a part (the Dies Irae) of my favorite classical piece ever (Mozart's Requiem).
