It's Ours For Keeps
It's been a bit shit really ain't it?

Pakistan and India going out was amusing, but ultimately lead to more crap games in the already drawn out "Super 8s", the crowds have been crap and teams such as England and the Windies have been wank - teams that add to the game if they're challenging

A load of shit

I think India, Pakistan, England West Indies should play a series on their own at the same time as the semi finals. Interesting to see which one is more followed.

As a Sri Lankan i'm really enjoying it in terms of our teams performance, but I do agree it's been a bit of a let down. Marred by the death of Bob Woolmer, as well as the poor atmosphere in the crowd, mostly because the home nation has been atrocious in the super 8's.

Bangladesh Vs Ireland
If all went to plan it would've been Pakistan Vs India

I'm all for upsets, but that is just piss.

Would you rather have Kenya in the semis by a knock-out or have 4 well filtered out teams Davo?

Granted the procedure is lengthy as feck but you can't many better alternatives
I think just keep it down to 3 teams in each group instead of four. You will still get your Bangladeshs and Irelands and eventually get a same super 8's and semis. Makes it shorter and kills of those initial crap games.

Australians are just too good for the rest, I hope South Africa beats them.

Saying that it has been quite disappointing, the crowds have been poor and the ICC are to blame for the ticket prices which many of the locals couldn't afford.

Good to see another Sri Lankan in here, hope we beat the Kiwis tomorrow.

On balance, Kenya in the semis.

I know what you mean, but it's simply far too long....and the fact that 2 of the most spectacular nations failed in the groups defeats the object of the filtering anyway

Yeah, we're capable of beating them as we've already shown, but apparently the pitch is gonna be quite bouncy which caters more towards them. Really hope our batting line-up fires, we've been excellent on the bowling front.

That's as much to blame as the West Indies performances, for the crap attendances.

It does mean they failed on merit and not on a one-off

What this World Cup has lacked is some edge of the seat matches. 1999 had a similar format but it had some absolutely brilliant games which kept it alive

Amol, not entirely sure what you're on about. Do you mean none of Bermudas and Hollands doing the rounds?

True, I think the ICC also decided to have some kind of a ban on taking musical instruments into the stadium which is another reason as the West Indians love their music.

Yeah batting is the problem and the top four have been way too inconsistent, hopefully Tharanga and Sanga do well tomorrow.

It's a crap suggestion
:(
Why?
You would rather have an associate team in every group beaten by everyone.3 teams in every group makes much more sense. The rest of the format can also be changed but that step has to be taken.

But weren't Ireland one of the associates? According to your format they wouldn't have been able to play.

Awful WC.

Highlights of WC so far.

Bob Woolmer

Pakistan and India's reception back home.

Chucker Malingas 4 Wickets (sorry Roonaldo)

Englands completely pointlessness win against WI. In many ways it was a classic one-day match - some players contributed, there were sixes and chaotic run-outs; and with two balls to go, you still didn't know who was going to win.

Come on Lanky's bring on the summer.

:wenger:

This WC's format is different to any other. The 4 in one group think was utter shite. They should have either had 3 groups of 5 each or 2 groups of 7 each. Then only had Super six not super eight which went on for a fecking month.

And there was a super six in 2003 as well.

There could be six associates and one of them could make it to the super whatevers, but it wouldnt make the decision right. Besides hypothetically it should be Ireland, Pakistan and West Indies. Theres one associate team extra everywhere. Eg. remove Bermuda from India's group.

Yes, just friggin delete those teams out. Four groups with 3 teams each. 9 test playing nations with 3 other teams qualifying giving enough of a chance for them to rise. Or the alternative if ICC is shortening the super six to a super 8 again, but i would rather shorten the crap part of the tournament than the better one.

How is that different to this world cup? Everyone beat Bermuda and almost everyone beat the fourth associate team.
I already said this WC's format is shit, there should be atleast groups of 5. Unless there are more than 20 teams like in Football, there is no need for small groups.

I thought both 1999 and 2003 were good. In fact I have watched 4 starting from 1992 and all have been great. This WC though was last nail in the coffin of WI cricket. No chance of them ever becoming a force like 80's IMO. This WC could have re-ignited their interest in cricket, it has had an opposite effect if anything.

you forgot Andrew Strauss meeting GG on a beach.

one of his highlights anyhow.

Great WC, enjoying every minute of it. It seems much more even than in previous years, and at the semi final stage although Australia are favourites, each of the other 3 teams have at least a semi decent chance of winning.
Highlights of the WC
-Bond
-Styris
-Fleming
-Vettori
-Oram
-Mccullum
-England, Pakistan and India capitulation.
