Wasn't sure whether to put this in the FF; if it's better there, please move mods.
With that said, as despicable a regime as they represent, there is a clear thread throughout the forum that many United supporters are hoping we can offload as many players on them as they will take. They are one of, well, one [club] who can not only take on our wages, but even improve on them for so-called superior players to take the temporary career hit in going there. The likes of, say, a Rashford, is going to come at a premium for them, as an example, and he'd almost certainly get a wage increase plus extras for going there.
As what is undoubtedly the most upwardly mobile club in the world, they can cast a wide net this summer and make use of players who aren't necessarily top 3 material, but anyone on the rungs down from there is viable for at least a couple of seasons before they are phased out, which makes a host of players we have viable targets, for now, but the reality for most of our players is they don't represent value or bang for buck quality, and just as wide as the aforementioned net is, it means Newcastle can pursue equivalent talent for less with no premiums based on status tax etc.
This makes me think selling to them will be a lot harder than people think. Prestige or marquee signings, a Rashford or Martial, sure or a player like Lingard who is a free agent they'd pay signing on fee for, are, to me, logical targets, perhaps Shaw, also, but beyond that, why would they take on other players we have? Even then, is it realistic to think 3 or 4 players could be sold/moved on to the same club in the same window? Could a Southampton-Liverpool exodus occur or is it wishful thinking from United fans?
Maguire is the most often mentioned player in regard to this subject, as far as I can see, but to me, he's the least realistic of all the players we have to go there. His profile, wage, age and form (interconnected) make no sense whatsoever for them to entertain when they will have cheaper, better options knocking doors via agents.
As the header asks, how do you see the hoped for 'connection' unfolding? What, or who, is realistically going there in your opinion?
