Looking for the answers...
Inspired by the numerous music threads on the forum, I figured I would throw another in to the mix.

The purpose of the thread is to try and determine who can be argued as having I the best voice on the planet. This doesn't have to be limited to current artists either.

There are a lot of rock, indie, hip hop and r&b fans on the forum, but can any of the artists that perform under these genres be classified as having the best voice?

If you take the time to think about it, you may have to leave your comfort zone in terms of musical taste.

Of course this is subjective, and whilst there may be an overall consensus, some may throw a curveball in to the frame.

Post a youtube clip to back up your choice, and we should amass a collection of some great tracks.

Hopefully this won't turn in to a "how can you compare rock to classical, or hip hop to reggae" type thread.

Personally, I'd go for Andrea Bocelli:

Other suggestions so far:

Pavarotti:

Susan Boyle:

Although this may have been a sarcastic choice

I simply can't name just one, but these voices are to me the greatest of all time --

Tenor - Jussi Björling

Soprano - Birgit Nilsson

Bass-baritone - Hans Hotter

Although I would say every single opera house have singers far, far surpassing Bocelli or Boyle (Just go & have a listen! :)) there are very few 'voices for the ages' out there today, in my opinion.
The only one I'd rate as being up there is Terje Stensvold (bass-baritone) --

-- and Anna Larsson (the Erda in this clip) is very good too. :)

:o I'm sorry, but -- *bump!*

This is such a great topic and I'd hate to kill this thread.

To stay on topic, the only one among the 'popular voices' (Bocelli et al) I rate is Malena Ernman.

Here she is singing 'Ombra mai fu' from Händel's Xerxes --
