Obviously hasn't kicked off properly yet, but the sums being quoted seem a bit less excessive than previous seasons. A few examples:

  • Neymar - the club want forty-odd million, but that's ridiculous. Looks like he'll end up closer to 30
Sanchez - Udinese seem content enough with 30-35 million which seems reasonable if he's as good as he's supposed to be
Pastore - Club want 40 million, no-one biting
Fabregas - Barca not prepared to pay much more than 30-odd million

As long as the first big move isn't someone like Sneijder to us for fifty million, it might prove a resonable enough transfer market to what was happening in January (50million for Torres!) or summer two years ago (Kaka for 50-60million and Ronaldo for 80million, eighty fecking million!).

What do you think is the going rate for a proven quality footballer at the moment? I think it's less than it was

What are you saying here? Outrageous fees quoted for the likes of Neymar, Pastore and Sanchez. Proven quality like Fabregas, Sneijder, Modric unbuyable.

They're still crazy prices for those considering they aren't proven players. Might be talented but its a huge risk especially when you through in a new country, language, weather and league etc.

Guess its just a sign of the times, in that prices have been so mad that we think they are more reasonable. Not for me. Well over priced.

If Harry thinks he'll get 40million for Modric he's having a laugh.

Forty million quid for Splinter's just never going to happen

Sneijder probably won't fetch that either considering his wages

I guess most selling clubs are thinking 'Well if Andy Carroll was worth £35 million then we start the bidding at £40 million for a half-decent player'

yeah and then the other clubs are just saying "feck off", unless they're moronic like City or Chelsea.

I definitely think prices have come down a bit - look at the Sahin transfer - what did he go for - 6million or something? Fair enough he's not established, but that's unbelievable value.

So come on then, how much is say Tevez worth in this market?

my mate works as a caddy out in las vegas and he was looking after ashley young and 2 other guys, said young was a complete muppet and very rude.one of the guys was teasing him that he wasn't a united player yet and he informed them he was 90% there but the whole saga is down to SAF he didn't say reason but told them that sanchez would be signed and barca pulled out cause they want nani to go to madrid as they think that wit nani and ronaldo there that ozil will not stay as he doesn't even speak to ronaldo and there hoping nani will push him into making transfer request and they have been informed that barca is only club he will move to and he has something in his contract that he picks the club and that is why he was so cheap last yr.young also indicated that nasri was united bound, i follow everton so believe or not as ya like!!!

Correction.. Carroll was sold for 35mil, he was never worth even half personally!

As for value.. Henderson 20mil and 16.5mil for Jones = Ridiculous!

So far, the market has been quiet. But once it gains momentum, I can see some clubs spending crazy money

My cousin's mates brother hangs out with a guy who was shagging a girl that was there when Young picked up another girl in a bar that her dad owned. They all went back to a hotel room for a session and said that it was full of shit.

There is so many variables in the transfer market. You can't say "Ozil went for 12 million and Carroll went for 35." It just doesn't work that way

a) The length of the contract. Modric is on a 6 year contract. He's on big wages, and isn't that bothered about leaving Tottenham.

b) The size of the club. Tottenham aren't looking to sell their best player. He can help them push on.

c) The need of the bigger club. How much do United/Chelsea/City want Modric? My guess is we'll see in the coming days.

Either way, you're looking at around 40 million for Modric,

i heard that kenny dalglish wants to sign ronaldinho in an attempt to revive hes career. dalglish still thinks hes the best in the world and ronaldinho wants to come to england coz chelsea never signed him.

It seems every other club is pouncing on our targets, so fecking annoying.

Yep, fair points. I understand there are many factors, including mainly a players contract situation and age.

The figure of 40million for Modric is a Spurs figure, which is there for the purpose of hilarity, presumably because he's clearly not worth that. You'll notice that since you've posted the above at least one of these things have changed, with Modric looking like acting the cnut and in so doing lowering his value a bit.

I personally think it's all on whoever moves first. That'll set the standard to a degree I'd say. At the moment figures like 40 million are being thrown about fairly casually - that's just a left over from the manic last few transfer windows, including the totally insane January just gone.

I think the figure for a very good quality international with a few years of experience with 2-4 years on their contract will come back down to being about 25-30millionas it was previously provided someone like Modric or Sneijder goes for normal money in the short term first.

btw, anyone posting crappy pointless crouch to united rumours - delete them and start ** own thread on that type of shite. This threads about discussing the shape of the market.

Apparently, whilst gerrard was away on his charity trip in portugal he and his fellow 'golfers' were at a certain venue and lionel messi was spotted at the bar, i am not saying anything substantial but given messi's 'supposed interview' post champs league final it seems he and a couple of the liverpool players have struck up a good relationship, make of it what you will

Steve can you stop posting that crap in this thread.

Ok, mate, no problem. :)

So with the first big high-profile signing of the market made in Alexis Sanchez's move across Europe to Barcelona, it looks like the market's beginning to take shape. No club appears to be willing to overpay at the moment, including all of the usual suspects:

Barca
got Sanchez for 26million base which is good value and won't pay a penny for Fabregas that they don't need to

Chelsea
Not going to pay anything over 30million for Modric, not really in the market otherwise

Man Citeh
Refusing to get raped on Tevez's departure. Remains to be seen what happens with Aguero but look like waiting until prices become normal

Real Madrid
Have basically signed excellent quality youngsters and Hamit Altintop for buttons whilst sticking the likes of Diarra up for sale. Only overpayment seems to have been for Fábio Coentrão, but then Real Madrid couldn't sign a defender to save their lives - probably loaned back to Benfica inside a year. Point still stands though

Manchester United - 19 times Premier League Champions of England
Have signed three youngsters at 20 million or thereabouts each. Basically have overpaid to a degree but always will. Seemingly unwilling to spend huge money on unproven talent such as Ganso and Pastore also seems a reluctance towards Sneijder for big money. Clearly require a central midfielder though

I think it'll get interesting from here on with some big-hitters yet to do anything in the market as of yet eg Milan, Chelsea and Man Citeh.

It's been a waiting game so far if you ask me, but many of the deals have reflected value imo. Sanchez at 26m, Young at 18m, Bojan at 13m, Varane at 10m etc.

I think it's still a waiting game, no-one seems quite prepared to pay that extortionate fee most chairman are demanding for their star players so far. While those demanding huge fees currently have time on their hands.

It will be interesting as the window approaches it's end to see how many of the chairman stick to their guns in regards of not cashing in on their best players and alternately how many of the clubs currently not biting, start to cave at the prospect of possibly not signing the player they want.

A call my bluff of sorts is going on atm with the likes of Tevez, Modric, Sneijder, Nasri and Fabregas. Very interesting to watch the respective situations develop over the next month or so.
