The Stone Roses

In same boat mate.

Mani apparently said that if the Specials reformed then he'd do his best to get the Roses back together, & it's the 20th anniversary for 'The Stone Roses' so it could happen soon.

I heard that, but from what Ian says, he seems to fecking despise John Squire, and vice versa. I think I heard they turned down a massive offer to play at Glasto a year or two ago.

I've seen Ian Brown live, and he played Waterfall, it was an amazing experience. I just wish I could hear a whole Roses gig. :(

Stone Roses - Class.

My old man reckoned they were pretty ropey live when he saw them.

Still would love to see it.

They all want to do it except Ian Brown because he still feels that Squire stabbed him in the back.
Last time I saw Ian Brown live he did quite a few Stone Roses tracks and that was pretty amazing in itself.

Ian Brown is the only obstacle to a Stone Roses reunion, the band's former bassist Mani said this week. And if the Manchester band are ever to get back together, it will be up to fans to twist Brown's arm.

"Me, John and Reni are up for doing it and Ian just needs some working on," Gary "Mani" Mounfield told the Channelbee website. Counting Mani, guitarist John Squire and drummer Alan "Reni" Wren, that's three-quarters of the band accounted for. But frontman Ian Brown is stone-hearted, and has hardly spoken to the others since their acrimonious split in 1996.

"Next year is the 20th anniversary of the first album," Mani continued. "It's the ideal time to do it. It's something I would love to do before we are all fat and bald. Start the campaign."

Of course by "Start the campaign" he doesn't mean, "Let John, Reni and I write a heartfelt, conciliatory letter to Ian, putting the past behind us and emphasising our desire for forgiveness, friendship and the mutual generation of millions of pounds". What he means is, "Fans' peer pressure will break him!"

However, the last time Brown spoke out on the subject, he wasn't exactly enthusiastic. There was "no chance," he said, "not in the next three lifetimes," that the Stone Roses would get back together.

If Ian Brown puts the skids on the Stone Roses re-forming it won't be the only reunion plan scuppered. Yesterday, Johnny Marr declared that rumours of a Smiths reunion were no more than that. He told NME.com that he was committed to his current band the Cribs. "The stories circulating about a Smiths reunion are, as usual, untrue. I'm currently very excited about writing and recording with the Cribs for a new album to be released next summer and we're playing shows in February, so going back in time isn't in my plans."

Maybe an internet petition will change their minds?

Over time I have found myself listening to 'The Second Coming' more than the first album

am I on my own on this one?

The first album is probably the best album ive ever heard, but it gets to a stage where ive heard it too many times

Yes I think that has something to do with it - have maybe overplayed the first album to death yet 'The Second Coming', which was universally slated when it was first released, seems to grow and grow on me over the years - perhaps it was ahead of its time?

My mate was in the Stone Roses, he was their Bez, they got rid of him just before they made it.

Unlucky.

Your mate is Cressa ? Tell em I said he's fecking deadly Ive got footage of that cnut (Darling Gentleman) dancing for them years ago..............Ive loads of bootlegs etc from tons of their shows, Leeds/Leicester/Feile/Tokyo fecking mountains

Ive always loved Second Coming more than The Stone Roses, think its to do with me being a huge Zep fan before getting into the Roses.

Regardless I think they were both great albums just Second Coming takes a bit more listening

Ian Brown can't sing. Would probably be shit and tarnish the memories.

Ah good so Im not the only one

Ian Brown can't sing. Would probably be shit and tarnish the memories.

Well he doesnt have the strongest voice but he makes up for it with his on stage presence and charisma - seen him live quite a few times and it was pretty fecking good

cocks out lads :D

The Stone Roses to reunite?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/mar/17/stone-roses-reunion-reported

The Stone Roses have at least 21 nights scheduled for a comeback tour in the UK and America this summer, according to the reports in the Mirror. Despite frontman Ian Brown telling journalists last summer there was "no chance ... not in the next three lifetimes" of his former band reuniting, today's report claims a tour is planned to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the band's eponymous debut album.

The article claims that guitarist John Squire managed to convince the reluctant frontman to rethink his position on a reunion. A source apparently told the Mirror, "It's taken a lot of time to get Ian to agree but he's finally signed the dotted line. The rest of the band were up for it, especially when they realised the amount of money on the table."

Hopefully, relations between former bandmates will remain cordial long enough for them to complete the alleged 21-night tour. The Stone Roses split up in 1994 amid rumours of ego battles and in-fighting, with relations particularly strained between Squire and Brown.

Despite only recording two albums in their 12 years as a band, the Stone Roses' best years coincided with the halcyon days of "Madchester", contributing heavily to the city's reputation as a place of burgeoning talent and fun. Their 1989 debut is consistently named in top 100 albums lists.

The years immediately after the band split saw Brown enjoying a successful solo career and Squire returning to his love of painting, while bassist Mani joined Primal Scream and drummer Reni drifted between musical projects. A 20th-anniversary edition of the band's debut, remastered by original producer John Leckie, is set to be released in June.

Hmmmmmm, I fear many people will be dissapointed by the performances of Mr Brown live....

nah - he is pretty good on stage and most people will be to pissed to notice even if he is out of tune!

Well then you might as well get him to mime and wear a pair of gold hotpants like Kylie - you wanna hear the cnut sing and the others play their instruments, not listen to a cd of The Complete Stone Roses.

You really should sit down and listen, I suggest the Complete compilation album as it's fecking magnificent, a musical feat. The Second Coming was....okay, just okay. Some good tunes and lyrics emanating but it appeared Squire went off on a ego trip and the songs generally all contained nineteen minute guitar solos inbetween when they really could have brilliant. Still, Ten Storey Love Song and Love Spreads are great choooons....

Heard a few of their songs but I've never really sat down and listened to any of their albums.

Go on Johnno, do your worst

You should really just get listening then. Thier debut album is one of my all time favourites and it just doesn't seem to age imo. So many classic songs in there as well, She Bangs the Drums being the highlight for me, it's just about the nicest sounding pop song you're ever likely to hear.

Not really given much time to the second coming myself if I'm honest. Actually, I think I'll give it a listen now.

cheer up lad - its fecking great news if it is true!

Ian Brown and Mani are still top quality live performers and im sure Squire can still play his guitar - only really Reni to worry about

How'd u go about about getting tickets for stuff like this? I mean whats the best websites to get them off? No doubt they'll be snapped up within minutes.

Complete Stone Roses CD it is then - there's no chance of them reforming, so i suggest a nice bag of skunt & stick on the CD & let the tunes flow very nicely

Its a great Album if anyone's interested

Personally, I reckon he's right. I don't see them ever living up to the legend, and I'd say the chances of Brown and Squire getting along are next to impossible.
