There are plenty of Ten Hag supporters on here. There were also plenty of Martial backers before he went on loan and did nothing. And there is a hugely vocal Van De Beek support who went to Everton on loan and did nothing.
Now i hope when Ten Hag arrives he is the answer. But the past record of Eredivisie managers coming to the Prem (a massive step up) does not point to that hope being built on anything substantial. De Boer's disastrous tenure at Palace being the most notable catastrophe. And then there's Martin Jol going to Spurs.
What bursts my noggin is our recruitment process. If we want someone we get him, not go through this drawn out process which leaves the club and side in limbo all of which has its effect not just on performances now but in future planning. We had a hole in midfield already and that is becoming an impossible chasm with Pogba, Lingard, Mata and now Matic leaving the club.
But what shows me nothing is being learnt is the interview with Ten Hag being conducted by people who are just not qualified to do so. Darren Fletcher, an effective player for us once, has no credentials to be technical director. Yet he and football director John Murtough who also has questionable qualifications have been responsible for interviewing Ten Hag.
Even though he has no experience in top flight European league football the Ajax boss still had more about him than the United representatives and it is no surprise that he felt so emboldened to speak out about the state of the club and mistakes made in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
How low have we sunk that we are in the position where a manager is interviewing the club rather than the other way around.
