Most people around seem to be convinced that another striker would solve all the woes of the present team. IMO we don't need another striker if SAF sticks to the nonsensical 4-5-1. If we go back to the 4-4-2 another striker might be useful given that Forlan continoes to wander around giving back passes and never getting sight of goal. RVN and OGS should start every game. The problem is the midfield. It is taking ages to build up a decent attack and all the opposing defenders have time to get back in numbers forcing our striker(s) to play with their back to goal.
The build up is slow and the main culprit is, IMO, Veron. Blanc doesn't help when he gets involved and to add to the misery Becks also comes into the congested midfield (so does giggsy  ) which leaves us with no wide men to really bother the opponents and serve some decent balls to the forwards. SAF - please stop trying to accomodate Veron. We have place for 4 midfielders - let them fight it out. As for Giggsy - one decent game in every 10 is just not good enough. Becks need some more games to be sharp.

We definitely need another striker whatever formation is used.

Too many games for just two.

Livvie, I thought we had three forwards - RVN, OGS, DF

Or have you already given upon DF

And besides - i think its time to give our youngsters a try in some matches.

No - but I don't recognise him as a reliable striker yet.

I think he's an excellent provider, and is good in midfield.

Why are ppl knocking the 4411 after todays game?
We got lots of crap results last season playing 442.
The beauty of using 4411 against these "settle for a draw" merchants is that it gives us lots of gears to move up into.
Look at today, started off at a slow steady 4411, moved up to 442, cranked the pressure up to 3-5-2 and when neccesary we moved up to 2-5-3.
Had we played 442 today it wouldnt have gone much better and then we'd have less options later on. Playing 442 also means that frustration sets in quicker. Changing from 4411-442 can change the pattern of a stubborn game without leaving the defence open (like a 442-352 change does.)
One thing i would like however is a winger on the right. Id like to see Beckham gradually take over Keanes role in the middle and a real winger like Andrej, Giggs or Sharpe on the right.

But SAF bought him as a striker
:( we did not want a midfield player when he was bought. Have our scouts gone so bad or is it possible that Boro were the net benficiaries in all this

Lest we forget - we won 7 PL titles playing 4-4-2. And BTW today we ended playing 2-5-3 and it was no tactical wizardry but plain panic

Huddersfiled town won doubles playing with wing halves and half forwards in the 50's, maybe we should go for that.

Weve failed a lot in Europe playing 442, last yr we had a relatively good yr in Europe. Constant 442 is too predictable, we have to vary it to move forward.
