Not only Finland's best player but the best player in the world IMO. Do you think he'll win the Stanley Cup with the Avs this year?

MrMarcello said:My top 5 NHL players are (goalies excluded):
1. Forsberg
2. Modano
3. Naslund
4. Lidstrom
5. Sakic
Vesa said:Not a bad list. 3 out of 5 players are from Finland!
kennyj said:Aren't Forsberg, Naslund and Lidstrom from Sweden?
Richter said:Yes they are Swedish all three, as a Swede I can confirm that. Vesa, is this a wind up or are you taking something?? Everyone that knows a little thing about hockey in general knows that Forsberg is Swedish and born in the small city Örnsköldsvik, Näslund is also from Örnsköldsvik. Näslund is born 1973 like Forsberg.
Noy yo Fdart said:Anybody who doesn't include Joe Thornton in a top 5 list does not know anything about hockey.
Bruins will win the Cup, if not this year, then soon.
Noy yo Fdart said:You're right, I am a Boston fan, and I've never seen a player in the current NHL contribute to his team better than Thornton has. Sorry, but I can't agree with you at all.[QOUTE]
Have you not watched Yzerman with Detroit, Forsberg with Colorado, Modano with Dallas, Naslund with Vancouver? These guys contribute so much to their teams. Modano and Forsberg are irreplaceable. The latter two are the best two way players in the league. Nothing against Thornton, but give him a few more years and he might become the presence of an Yzerman or Modano. Even Lecavalier is irreplaceable for Tampa Bay and brings so much to his team.
It drives me nuts, everyone must immediately flock to the Avalanche when it comes to the NHL. I'd like to see Forsberg or Sakic play on a different team, I wonder how much they would help without lots of other star power behind them. Jagr sucks, by the way, his days are over.
Vesa said:I'd say if Forsberg gets his act together Finland just might go all the way
RedCanuck said:Peter Forsberg is a hell of a player, won't with the Stanley Cup this year 'cause there will be no hockey.
And he's Swedish.
Richter said:We got the Swedish Elitserie so there will be a lot of hockey
RedCanuck said:You can have it. With the footie and NFL seasons I won't miss hockey at all
Richter said:We got the Swedish Elitserie so there will be a lot of hockey
Vesa said:So where do u live Richter? U got a decent team close by? I am afraid Björklöven up here where I live won't have many NHL players in their lineup...
Richter said:I live in Stockholm so i might see some in Globen even if i hate Djurgården.
Kristjan said:who doesn't?
I live in Iceland and even I dislike Djurgården.. doesn't matter if it's hockey or football
Kristjan said:ah yes good that Källström moved, not that we see much svensk football up here though
I support Malmö FF though, don't know what you say about that
Richter said:I have nothing against Malmö other than that they are one of Hammarby's title rivals, Hammarby are shit right now, can't find the goal
Vesa said:Linderoth is my fav coach in Sweden though. I just love his idea of the game; creativity, quick passing game and full out attack. I guess he needs a few more skilled players to implement his vision but he is getting there.
Richter said:The players are still too young. Most of the midfielders and attackers are about 18-22. And Hammarby needs a RVN type of striker that can score the goals that are needed
Vesa said:Well you had him but you let him go: Andreas Hermansson is still a good box player. I love Östlund's attitude, but a reliable goalscorer would be a good thing. Get that Talebwhatshisname on the cheap from AIK? Or Hoch? I think they have some talent there that never gets up and running. They are still relying on Andreas "Ohyesmyhaircutiskindagirlieandislapupgaypeoplewhenifeellike" to make it big... But Taleb or Hoch could very well hit it off if they only change clubs.
Richter said:We had Dede at Hammarby. The top scorer in Allsvenskan right now but someone screwed up after the last season and he left to Kalmar
Vesa said:I never did understand that move. Good strikers are hard to come by, not a very bright move to give up one that you've got. I guess there are not very many young talents around at the moment. I guess foreign players are an option. I think the U21 player that signed for Sundsvall a few months ago will be a hit next year (Dahlberg? I forget the name) but besides that I cannot see many up and coming new attacking players.
Richter said:Haven't seen too much of Dahlberg, Dahlberg and Kalle Ljungberg are Sundsvalls big attacking hopes for the future what I have seen so far. Petter Andersson in Hammarby is improving the whole time but he needs to be good every match. Not in one match and then disappear in the next. That's the problem with all young players.
Vesa said:I guess so. I am a bit confused over Sundsvall's use of Dahlberg; he has been an attacking midfielder for the U21 squad and Umeå FC but for Sundsvall he gets to play as a striker. Talented guy, maybe not the next Zlatan but the next... Jens Fjellström
the answer's DMrMarcello said:Anyone who says Thornton is better than Forsberg, Modano, Naslund, Lidstrom, and Sakic is clearly _____ .
a) a Boston fan
b) a windup
c) an idiot
d) all of the above.
Thornton is a very good player, but not near top 5. I can name a few others above him as well (Lecavalier, Shanahan, Nash, Jagr).
