Any of you interested in what goes on on the other side of the Channel ?

Well actually we have some pretty decent bands here in France. Most of them originate from Paris itself but interestingly enough they have all opted to sing in English.

Hence I wonder what you native English speakers listeners of legendary British bands would think of our new pretentious bands trying to steal your holy language that has done such favours to rock music.

Let me introduce you a few of them :

Stuck in the Sound

An original band that I've had the privilege to see in concert. Their singer and main guitarist are of Portuguese decent. The singer has a peculiar voice capable of high-pitched notes, quite impressive live.

Hushpuppies

Very recent garage rock band. Classic to say the least. Here is their first single :

Naive New BEATERS

These guys are more interested in indie rock. They are quite anonymous but I enjoyed their first single that was reminiscent of the likes of Razorlight.

Phoenix

Probably the best of them all. The pride of French rock. Actually they are from Versailles, in the leafy suburbs of Paris, you know like

Their last album was absolutely brilliant. I'll give you two tracks for you to be able to make yourself a good idea of this quality band. By the way, the lead singer is Sofia Coppola's husband. Maybe this led to her filming Marie Antoinette in Versailles ?

Is the french accent too showy ? I am glad to have so many young promising bands around anyway.

Not really my thing, but they're ok. Though if I am being brutally honest I would say they're not great. I could post up a list of bands from my town of Teignmouth, which I would regard as not much worse than these. And these are just small local bands from an obscure nothingness town with a population of about 15000

For example Hey Molly and The Quails. Though admittedly I don't actually like these bands, but I went to school with them and The Quails guitarist is one of my best mates. He's also insanely good on guitar, I mean really good. Not that he ever get's a chance to show it, because that would mean stealing the singers limelight, and Dan is a gimp.

And of course

There you have it, Teignmouth > Paris

I already know Phoenix and I like them - not sure about the rest

Phoenix are awesome. One of my favourite bands. Loving '1901' and 'Fences' from the new album.

Tahiti 80 are OK too. Not sure they're Parisian, but definitely French. The singer has a slightly girly voice and their lyrics are awful, but otherwise they're recommended.
