United are refusing to comment over claims Lilian Thuram will be the club's next target should the bid to sign Rio Ferdinand collapse.
Sir Alex Ferguson is gearing up his first close season plunge in the transfer market and speculation is rising that France international Thuram is on his shopping list.
Last week The Red Devils chief revealed he is in the market for at least two top players and with Leeds and England star Ferdinand emerging as his prime candidate, a guessing game has started to unearth the other wanted man.
Thuram looked to be close to being a United player a few years ago but moves to land him collapsed when he opted to join Juventus from Parma.
Ferguson has been an admirer of the 30-year-old since his early days as a player with Monaco.
However, sources close to Old Trafford claim United seem more likely to make a move for Blackburn and Ireland star Damien Duff, with Dwight Yorke switching to Ewood Park in a cash-plus-player deal.
Juventus's official line on the future of Thuram is that he is not for sale. General manager Luciano Moggi confirmed yesterday that the club had not been touting him around for sale and that the France international would be back in pre-season training this week.

"United are refusing to comment"

Once again this comes. What is 'refusing to comment'? It's 'Didn't bother making a statement'.

Ofcource, refusing to comment is better for headlines.

wondered how long it'd take one you to knock this up
