Will Wright (creator of the sims) says it like it is:

"The only next gen system I've seen is the Wii – the PS3 and the Xbox 360 feel like better versions of the last, but pretty much the same game with incremental improvement. Bu tht eWii feels like a major jump – not that the graphics are more powerful, but that it hits a completely different demographic. In some sense I see the Wii as the most significant thing that's happened, at least on the console side, in quite a while."

Couldn't have said it better myself.

How are you defining "next gen" though.

The PS2 was considered next gen when it came out - apart from graphics, power and dvd play back, what was the difference between the PS2 and the PS1? Not that much.

Don't think the Wii has lasting appeal though. People will get bored of it.

Agreed. I know a few people that have already got bored of their Wii. They think its great for a few months or so, but then all the games feel the same. However i am sure young kids could be entertained by the Wii for quite a while.

Thats the problem i think. RE4 and Zelda are good but they are re runs from other consoles. If they was to have something like Halo and get it online...now that would blow everything in gaming to bits and would have everyone getting it.

How is Halo so fecking innovative?

Shooting at people with the wii remote to aim...you know..i would just love nintendo to make a game like UT or Halo and get it online with the Wii. Might be the best thing many people have experienced. Not heard anything about this type of game from them yet, no idea why.

The WiiMote isn't itself actually that clever, and there is no reason at all why such a thing could not be added to any other console or even PC. A controller is not a console, and the Wii is nothing more than an overclocked GameCube. Put the WiiMote with a PS2 and some Wii type games and it would wipe the floor. Nintendo got something very right, and it was judging the market correctly. Anyone who buys a Wii however should understand exactly what they are getting for the price - a total rip-off.
