On the whole not a bad effort but still not a patch on the original.
Have you seen the second series?
I'm tempted to say I enjoyed it more than the English version.
Both series are brilliant in their own places, even though I enjoyed Gervais a bit more cause it was much more subtle.. And that might be my bias speaking with me considering Gervais, Merchant (and how can I forget Pilkington) to be the three funniest men on the planet!

First series is shit. The people involved have come out and said that. The second, third and fourth series are brilliant. Not as good as the UK version, but still one of the best programmes on tv at the moment.
Your entitled to your opinion but I wholeheartedly disagree.
I went to see Ricky Gervais on the fame tour and had a moment when I realised he's not half as great as I thought he was.
I think it might cloud my judgement
I love it and in some ways I think it is better than the original British version. The US version has lost some of the realism and the documentary feel of the original but its still absolutely hilarious. I can't wait for more episodes but I believe I have to wait another month for the next installment.
I thought they cancelled the show as a result of the writers strike?

Cancelled meaning just like all the other TV Shows it was off air and didn't shoot during the duration of the strike..
Now that the strike's over, it's back on track...

it's very good. there's bound to be differences between the two versions but overall the American one is doing fine.
