the new Doctor Who.....

Emo Doctor Who (some bloke called Matt Smith).

I don't like it.

I wasn't sure on Eccleston and Tennant when they became the doctor. I was proved wrong on both they were great. I've never heard of Matt Smith I hope he is good.

He'll be shit

But the less hair the better

Were never going to get anyone in Tennant's league anyway.

My mother has seen The Ruby in the North which he was in and said he was quite good.

I don't mind the look, but if they turn it into a tweeny series then I'll be pissed. I don't think they will mind you.

Too many guys in this thread worrying over how he looks  Who cares? The fact that the show is shite should be your main worry

Middle of the road(being very kind) family entertainment. It's got no edge at all. And everything takes place in London. Christ's sake, there's a whole fecking universe to choose from. But no.

I know, I've never understood that. The possibilities for Dr Who should be endless, instead its the same recycled story line, with the same enemies, and the same setting. And his sonic screwdriver is surely the most perverse use of deus ex machina, the feckin thing can do everything. Plus they have a habit of giving him really, really annoying assistants who usually can't even speak proper English, like what that I does.

I think it's because they thought London would be the selling point, for viewers outside of this country. I have no idea how well it's done in the US(eg), though.. Either that, or they're just Londoncentric.

Some people actually rate it.

Spot on here. Shouldn't be worried. Dr.Who was ruined by the BBC long ago. Storylines are pathetic, an 8 year old kid could be more imaginative.

My parents rate it, which is how I know about his damn sonic screwdriver. When I go visit them for dinner on the weekends they're always watching it. Maybe they are Londoncentric, which explains their constant use of actresses with over the top, cliched cockney cadence (try saying that when you're pissed) as his assistants

It's probably aimed at them and 9 year olds. As I said, harmless family entertainment. I used to love Doctor Who, Tom Baker in particular was brilliant. I actually found it to be edgy at times and all.

i hate dr who, would love to shoot tennant in the face, annoying little prat

I like the the look of him, a bit on the young side (ooer Wenger) but he has the right looks (i.e. not a pretty boy). Plus he's done theatre and will probably come across less chavvy. I've had enough chav on Doctor Who!

He's also a relative unknown - just how Doctor Whos should be.

I liked Tennant but he's not in my top 4 Doctor Whos.

My favourite program! Love that Martha.
About to get our new episode tonight (of series 4, we're a way behind on BBC America.)
Been watching Dr Who since the 60's.
Not sure about this new guy. Was just getting used to Tennant ffs.

Never liked Doctor Who, always thought it was a bit boring. Torchwood isn't that bad though.

I have not watched the "new" Doctor Who but interesting he is so young.

William Hartnell was a grandad figure for kids (and apparently the rudest actor on TV). The rest for the most part are "eccentric uncle" figures. The dynamic changes with a doctor who is this young.

I can understand the criticisms above regarding weak plotlines but to me Doctor Who is best enjoyed if you take it for what it is...something passable to watch with the kids on a weekend. If you start analysing it the way you would an adult drama then it falls down flat. My 9 year old loves it, thinks its fantastic, and so do all his mates.

Agree that they could take it out of 21st century London a hell of a lot more though. I'm sure in the old ones, they were mostly on alien planets

It's campy and it is suppose to be. Some of the underlying themes are really well done most of the time if you look hard enough. The humour isn't bad either.
