SJOR TACTICS

Team full of favorite players with only aim to play beautiful football, Sjoro Bepito rather then @Joga Bonito .

Going with favorite players its only fair to go with favorite formation and thats the fluid 442/433 transformation. Most often with the classic 442(or 4411) in defensive phase and most often in 433 formation in attacking phase with Rosicky moving more centrally and Reus forming the front three.

Tactically:
Welbeck doing a man marking job on Pirlo. Most would say Welbeck best performances came in the CL tie against Real Madrid, well, he was doing a job on Xabi Alonso and was doing it brilliantly.

PHYSIO TACTICS

Tactics
– Mixed
Formation – 235 in possession/ 442 is the organised defensive phase
Defensive Line – Balanced
Marking – Zonal

The side is built entirely around Andrea Pirlo in his peak DLP role with Davids and Essien as exceptional wide shutters to provide him cover but also to allow Marcelo and Sagnol to play a very aggressive offensive game. Barzagli and Gabriel as athletic CBs capable of covering wide if necessary when Sagnol and Marcelo bomb-on together. Hazard and Mata are in both their respective peak positions as inside left and right where they achieved a near 1 in 2 record over 3 consecutive seasons. Lewandowski has exceptional link up play and of course tons of goals.

In the organised defensive phase, Mata goes to RM with Hazard at 10 so Davids moves to LM giving extra protection for Marcelo.

Fair play with the Welbz start, I did not expect that. Although the game changed quite a bit when Modric came on for Ozil, so whilst Welbz did well against Alonso, the additional creativity of a CM on form made a difference.

Also Welbz isn't quite Park, also Marcelo could be a key in the build up, if Pirlo is stopped (which I doubt) then Marcelo is capable of building up from deep. Also as Synco pointed out a while back Pirlo did venture forward quite a bit so unless you want Ole completely isolated Pirlo will have some freedom. Also on the passing options Essien and Davids will be closer to Pirlo than Ozil and Khedira was to Xabi so I think he has an easier to progress the ball.

Have you a vid on Dede? I haven't seen him in action for ages.

but you dont have modric next to pirlo :)
wont say welbz shuts down pirlo but conaidering the history in that role and his qualities id say its a good option to at least make a tough game for pirlo.

defend as a team and attack as a team, all players fit that theme so Ole wouldnt be isolated as he would also be back defending and all four attackers are great on the transition with great technical and athletic capabilities.

sadly didnt have time to make any vids for Dede but he was Marcelo light, fantastic footballer that got underrated and forgotten because of the fact he spent his whole career/peak in Bundesliga.

That's fair. True I don't have Modric but Hazard and Mata can drop deep too so I think if Pirlo is having a hard time I have enough creators to minimise the damage. I consciously tried to have as many creative passers as I could in the side as I don't tend to have that many.

I will watch the Dede vid. I was a huge Ole fan but Lewandowski is another level and I think will give your CBs a harder time than Ole will give mine.

Just by looking at the formations I'd have gone Physio, but Sjor's tactical explanations (442 to 433 switch, Welbeck man-marking) address most of my reservations. Still would have preferred the boring but perfect solution of Reus in the 9.5 spot.

But either way, so many great combos in both teams - Hazard/Marcelo first of all (albeit defensively courageous*), with Lewy added; both CM units are wonderful; Rosicky and Dede massive faves of mine back in the day. Great backline by Sjor, too.

* mostly in transition, Physio's plan for organised defense sounds convincing.

Defensively courageous is a great phrase. It sounds like a line Humphrey would say in Yes, Minister.

Reminds me of Sylvinho, another forgotten brazilian fullback from that era. He was also great on the ball , though too lightweight and injury-prone.

@Šjor Bepo I actually think this game would be much closer than the vote implies, as ever your sides are always tactically coherent

you can take me later for easy r1 win....
cheers and good luck in the next round :)
