Gaming The Metroidvania Thread

I’m currently playing Metroid Dread which is quite good.

just could not get into Nine Sols @Massive Spanner, may try it again at some point but it didn’t immediately hook me.

Decided to give Hollow Knight another go from scratch, forgot just what a wonderful game it is. As close to perfection as a metroidvania can come. (My two biggest gripes are the lack of a fast travel and some of the distances between bosses and benches. Can be a pain when you’re trying several times over on a boss and have to make the sodding journey there over and over).

I remember the Watcher Knights being difficult on my original playthrough but found them pretty straightforward this time round.

Is Silksong coming out this year?

:( but it's incredible.

I'm enjoying Ender magnolia now, about half way through there's a massive difficulty spike boss which was weird, it's definitely a few tiers below the best games.

Guacamelee 2 is good fun.

Just finished Bloodstained - absolutely loved it. Very solid and highly recommended.
Both fantastic games. Guacamelee 2 takes the zaniness of the first game and dials it up to 11, but the gameplay was already so good it didn't need to do anything more than that. Although the combat rooms do get a little predictable after a while.

Bloodstained was a little let down by its crappy late game areas - obviously a rush job at the end, but despite that, I still loved it. I don't think I've ever played another game that lets you get so absurdly overpowered if you don't mind a bit of grinding/farming. Still waiting for a sequel, I thought it was confirmed to be in development at one point but it seems to be taking a while.

Dont sleep on Nine Sols, if you like Sekiro, this is the closest to it. Amazing combat.
