It's started. David O'Leary says an egg and spoon race will be more competitive than the league, now that we have Rio. And it's been reported in more than one paper that we are now unbeatable.

All part of the plan to lull us, and the team, into a false sense of security?

Does anyone really believe that signing just one player, no matter how good, will automatically solve any problems?

Signing Rio was obviously a good move and hopefully this season will see less of the mistakes that were made last year. But it's the media starting the hype about winning the title, not Manchester United or Mancester United supporters. Not generally anyway. Before people say otherwise.

From certain sources, definately.

Not at all. Many people believed we'd be unbeatable when we signed Veron and Ruud, look what happened there. Anything can happen, so lets wait and see :)

The Rio signing is just a piece in the jigsaw but its a big piece cos we haven't had a truly world class centre half since Stam's first season. So despite the media hype you have to say the spine of the team is significantly improved with Rio-Roy-Ruud making a formidable trio in all outfield departments.

So I think our campaign will have to be a lot stronger this time around. Rio will make a massive difference, Veron will have a better season I'm sure and, more importantly, there will be no uncertainty around the future of SAF. We have to favourites to regain the title and we will definitely be stronger in Europe. I can't wait.

It's utter *bs* designed to make us complacent as you say Livvie. Who knows how Rio will fit into the team, chances are he'll do great but that's what we said about Seba!

Heck, our defence could be WORSE this season, you just never know!! It's typical media hype and rubbish and the players and staff should be well used to seeing through it by now....

Who are these cnuts who write the news anyway? ;)

Injuries aside, I don't see how our defense could be worse this season. If it is then we are looking at a crisis at OT, particularly given the outlay on Rio. Yeah the media hype things up but give people some credit, particularly genuine football people, not just the Sky News, 5 minute update brigade. We have to be a stronger proposition at the back next year. No question.

And in any case, my injuries aside point is almost academic. Would Liverpool be watertight if Hyppia was injured? Would Arsenal if Campbell? Rio is about to become the most important player in our back four and I for one am delighted he's signed.

And ABUs I hope.

The media spouts off that we're going to win, and it gets twisted round to make people think that it's our opinion!

We shouldn't be surprised. Newspapers sell themselves by building teams/people up and knocking them down. Makes for compulsive reading.
