Is for match commentary and reasonable pre and post match discussions and as such should generally look like the fixture list in reverse order as threads are posted a few days before the match and naturally die out a day or two after the match. This starting threads about a friendly match over a month away which will only entice the idiots to make stupid posts about teams with fictional signings stops here and now. Similarly bumping old match threads so that they are out of order stops now.

THE MATCHDAY FORUM IS NOT FOR feckING ABOUT!

Misunderstand this at your peril as you will find yourself banned from there until Christmas at the earliest the next time I have to go in there and sort things out.

It's a light hearted thing to keep the Barcelona-thread from being on top, it's not so nice to look at tbh.

Also, we're not even pre-season, it's not like the thread is ruining something. As for not bumping old threads, lock them if you don't want anyone to post in them.

We shouldn't have to lock them, we have clear rules about not fecking around in the United and Matchday forums and will exclude those who cannot appreciate that.

Like it or not, the last match we played was the European Cup final and IMO there's no shame in losing to a better side, just being there was something that was only a thing of dreams for most of my United supporting life.

Alright then,

I know the last game we played was against Barca, and I'm not ashamed of losing to them either, but it's also something I don't want to get reminded of everytime I log on. And the next game we play is infact against Malaysia XI (or something like that) and I don't see the problem of having that twirling around until we start playing again.

It's not only a matchday-thread but also a notice of when pre-season begins, if that's infact the next game we're playing. And some of the posting in there was reasonable and very related to the actual game, like the likely call-ups for Malaysia XI, which may be interesting for them who's interested in Malaysian footie.

I realize that no fecking around is allowed in the matchday forum but not to allow to post the thread for the next game seems a bit nazi. As for the improbable line-ups with crazy signings, I know it's irrelevant to the thread but the usual MD-thread doesn't glow with intelligence either way. And since it's such an unimportant game, I'm guessing it will get it's load of nonsense whether it's here now or gets up in July.

Aye, but that relies on posters in the thread sticking to sensible posting and not just posting shite. Of the two Malaysia XI matches we've deleted thus far, the bulk of them contained such gems as:

Malaysia by a half goal.

Buffon

Rafael
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Ronaldo
De Rossi
Iniesta
Ribery

Rooney
Benzema

1-0 90' Brown O.G.

Anyone got a good stream??

1-0!!! Benzeemaaaa!!!

It's 1-1 after a great goal by Muhamad Kaironnisam Sahabudin Hussain.

Good assist from Mohd Zaquan Adha Abdul Radzak, to be honest.

Early word is this

Cassilas

O'Shea Evans Vidic Evra

Carrick Gattuso
Ribery Kaka Rooney

Benzema
Bench: Foster, Ferdinand, Hargreaves, Fletcher, Anderson, Berbatov, van Nistelrooy

Does that mean that De Rossi is injured ?

Why they playing Gattuso, shit cnut

Can't believe we payed 28 mill for him, but wouldn't buy teveth

1-0

90' De Rossi OG

Resign Phil Neville because Fletcher will never make it at this level, bring Keano out of retirement because Anderson is past it. Get Ole back and stick Berba on the bench...and bring Beckham back because he sells stuff.

Play Giggs, Scholes and Gary...

Sky Sports report Cristiano Ronaldo talks with the players before the match against Malaysia.

Rooney:
"Its going to be a tough game Ronny. As you know, its been a long hard off season with everybody putting in massive effort to start the season off well. After the warm with Barcelona, we felt we needed to improve our positioning and overall tactics. Sir Alex has employed the help of a few RedCafe.net posters 'the leading Manchester United Forum' to assist him with his pursuit of an unmatched quad.

Ferdinand:
"Its fantastic to be here in Malaysia. The sun is hot, the air is hot, my life is hot, and your hot. We've trained well over the off season and look forward to getting back in to the swing[er]of things"

Vidic:
"I will break you"

Ronaldo:
"Ronny you don't respect me. After the reports you had over the summer about me questioning Sir. Alex's tactics, I have nothing to say to you"

Sir Alex:
"Football, bloody hell. The lads have not given up, and thats the real winner. After the loss to Barcelona, I thought we'd go in to our shells, but the lads have proven otherwise. We'll be lucky to beat this quality side of Inzuaml Gahagi and Judas Henize, but I think we can pull it off. Needless to say, we're going to have to on form to beat this quality Malaysian side"

Im top report, Cristiano Ronaldo for Sky Sports news.

Some funny, some sad, some deluded, but none of it what you want to wade through 20 pages of before the match even starts.

To be fair, most of the posts found in the matchday forum after the match has started, whether we go on to win, lose or draw, are largely idiotic. I don't expect it to be of the highest quality as people just want to type quick message and get back to the game. But, for the most part, people just respond with the same old rubbish each game.

"<insert player> wtf has Fergie started with him for."
"OMFG did u see ***!!"
"Sell <insert player>, not worth what we paid, rubbish"

That's more or less how the matchday thread has been since I joined 2 years ago (How it was before I'm not sure). All it'd take would be a couple of weeks worth of bannings of the idiots who post this drivel each match and it'd soon be cleared up, though I understand that is easier said than done.

But look on the bright side, we could be 606.

Bury, can't you delete those stupid comments in that thread instead of deleting the thread?

I could. I could roll a large boulder up a hill only to have it roll down again as well but my name aint Sisyphus. It's too early for a matchday thread, particularly for a largely pointless friendly and you should have taken that hint when the first thread was deleted. There were maybe 5 decent posts in the 80 or so in both threads.

Bury has a point, we dont want to be wading through 30 pages of rubbish before the match even kicks off!

To be fair, I thought every single one of them was hilarious. Particularly the stream one

You'd rather wade through 200 pages of rubbish when the match is finished?

No, I mean, if someone genuinely wants to follow a match using that method, they dont want to be scrolling through page after page in order to find out where the match officially kicks off

Disaster zone is that forum. Makes the transfer forum look like highly educated intelligentsia

I always thought the specific reason for the existence of the Matchday forum was to keep all the muppets away from the serious football talk.

One very good reason.

Just imagine the number of insignificant threads on a matchday during a game.

We'd probably have a dozen threads just for a misplaced pass if the matchday forum ceased to exist.

Those posts have to be kept they are hilarious!!

how about 1 person gets designated as a thread starter in that forum, set the permissions so no one else (except admins etc..) can start threads in that forum. then once a match is finished, create the thread for the next game, then close it until 2 days before the match or something

Could people in the matchday forum not just act sensibly, rather than post the same bollocks over and over again i.e. FFS Giggs, get Park off and bring on Nani(when we're comfortably in control and don't actually need to do anything) etc.?

It really doesn't seem that hard just to have a normal conversation in there, rather than senseless posts which end up making people look idiotic.

Me personally, or everyone?

I generally do that anyway, still doesn't change the fact that that forum is filled with spastics and it's really not that hard to change that if they bothered.

It's called the minute by minute thread young brwned

This one is for Bury

Apparently my rhetoric is lost on you young man

Come on Alex. It's the matchday thread for literally a nothing pre season friendly. Your average matchday thread is an absolute zoo anyway, full of "89' OG Brown", outlandish claims, stupid lineups featuring Hargreaves, Saha, and Richardson, and is of little value beyond knowing when we've scored and when they've scored.

It's a bit of harmless fun to pass the summer and I'm sure that anyone who is really that keen on following our fortunes in this friendly will either have MUTV, or we should have the faith that they've got the necessary brain power to find the starting page - something that you need for every matchday thread.

I'm not saying otherwise, and as Bury Red said there were some quite amusing comments in there; I have no problem with it per se myself, the mods do though, so I was just warning BuryRed isnt a mod you want to cross.

It's part and parcel of the fun, I think.

And wasn't the Minute by Minute thingamajig for this?

everyone is missing the point here

Bury is merely asking people to delay making the thread until the match is coming up. The season has just ended and Malaysia threads are popping up already, and being filled with pages of nonsense.

Are you actually kidding?! People have the thread ready prepared and I suspect wear a medal around their house after being the first to post it. That'll never change - it's the best fiddle they've ever had.

The only times ive tried to use that forum is to find out the starting lineups or where it is shown on tv; i dont bother anymore. SSN live scorecentre is much better.

OK, one ban from the matchday and countless infractions later and people still don't seem to get the message. Anyone who doesn't like our last match being on the first page can make a request here and I'll remove their ability to see the matchday forum indefinitely as at least that way I'll not have to clean up after you.

Anyone posting to bump threads in there will be banned.

Call me a bluff old traditionalist but possibly because it isn't about a transfer.

Just a thought.

I don't think anyone's gunna call you that Wibble. I don't think anyone's ever called anyone that?!

Is bluff a correct word to use in that context then?

Please please please tell me you didn't mis spell 'buff', cos that's gunna cause me to have nightmares :nervous:

I am rarely if ever called buff.

Buffy yes. Buff no.

It is a correct use of the word I believe. Except in the sense that I'm not.

And it is a blackadder quote.

bluff - bluntly direct and outspoken but good-natured; "a bluff but pleasant manner"; "a bluff and rugged natural leader"
