The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is an upcoming anime fantasy film directed by Kenji Kamiyama from a screenplay by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, based on the novel The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Produced by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation, the film is a prequel to Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Starring Brian Cox, Gaia Wise, Luke Pasqualino, Miranda Otto, Laurence Ubong Williams, and Shaun Dooley, The War of the Rohirrim is set 183 years before the events of those films and tells the story of Helm Hammerhand (Cox), a legendary king of Rohan, and his family as they defend their kingdom against an army of Dunlendings.
In cinemas December 13th.

Although, having the daughter of Helm Hammerhand be a redhead is certainly...a choice.

There were only three characters who explicitly had red hair, and it was very important as to who they were.

The only three characters in the entire Tolkien universe were Amrod, Amras and Maedhros, three sons of Feanor, all who had absolutely tragic and terrible fates.

Is this a foreshadowing?

This is Peter Jackson's Middle-earth, and there have already been multiple redheads in both his trilogies. So I wouldn't read anything into it.

Is all this something you already knew, or did you somehow look it up? Your answer determines whether this gets filed under 'terrifying' or 'mildly amusing'.

I've read the Silmarillion multiple times so yeah, I knew it already, why would it be terrifying?

Oh yeah I forgot about the existence of Tauriel.

But outside of redhead dwarves (who I don't consider part of "Children of Eru" because it was technically Aule going against the will of Eru) I don't recall any other redhead characters in the trilogies?

Tolkien generally wasn't hugely descriptive when it comes to characters (especially in the Sil). And yeah I was referring to the dwarves; i really don't think PJ went that deep with it.

I was in the presence of this god amongst men at the premiere tonight:

Bucket list entry ticked off.

How was this? Want to go see it but don’t want to end up being disappointed.

Disappointed in the reviews but I'm hoping to see it over the Xmas period - unfortunately it's already down to 1 showing per day at Vue and isn't even on at my local Odeon or Cineworld...
