..Well, you're not making it easy on yourselves if you want to project an image of a forum that has fun and doesn't take itself too seriously.

That was a great thread, completely irreverent and managed to provide a giggle for a few of us during the arduous transfer obsessed off season.

It also managed to be kept open quite happily for ages without anyone having issue with it as anything other than a fun thread, but now it's been bumped, and someone has taken it upon themselves to delete all the recent posts in it and lock it, before going back to their daily pass time of pulling the whiskers off kittens.....or something...

I know loads of the mods say there hasn't been any kind of change in the attitude of the forum, but there clearly has....This being a case in point.

If it was such a hideous blight it could've happily been moved to the genral. Oh well, I suppose there's always the wave of "Don't comment in here" threads to keep us entertained...

Well, the posts deleted were all down to comments being made that had nothing to do with anything, or just general questions like 'When will training start' over and over agian, despite that having already been asked and answered maybe 10 posts up.

I imagine it was closed because there will be a new thread for this years pre-season, like usual.

Finally, no new policies, no ultra-seriousness, it's the same as always. I believe this thread is the very definition of taking something too seriously. I can assure you, we've not sat down and decided to change the forum, or how it's perceived.

Having answered the post, I'll lock the thread, hopefully the Admin who deleted the posts and locked the thread can have the final say. It's not been locked to deny you an answer, but to speed the process. This way, you can have a direct answer without loads of irrevelant posts that aren't needed here.

I locked it. People seemed to be spamming it with nonsense towards the end. Crap like that may be randomly looked past in the Gen but it won't fly in the United.

Now tell me this isn't the best way to go about these threads.

User asks a question, mod tells him it's been noticed, locks thread to avoid stupid replies that have no bearing.

Admin comes in and gives his explanation on why it happened.

Within 3 posts we have everything sorted, and we've maintained over the years this forum is not for messing around in, it saves us time if threads are kept relevant.

We could do with a bit of silliness, especially in the off season. I found the whole thread hilarious.

To be fair, that whole thread is a complete spamfest which is what made it funny, so the decision to lock it in its third year of existence seems a bit odd.

The other reason it was locked is because it didn't need to be bumped. See the forum rules for more on this.

It didn't need to be bumped, but should that really mean it gets locked? It was only a laugh, and it's not like there were hundreds of similar threads, it was the only jokey one. If people don't like 'silliness' then ignore it, why should they get their way? I doubt anyone would complain anyway.

EDIT: In fact bumping it so early was part of it being funny.

It didn't need to be bumped and was pointlessly Wummish, which is why it was locked. Just because there's no football isn't open season to turn the forum into an orgy of silliness.

One thread is hardly an orgy of silliness is it? It was the same thread that was around 2 years ago.

I agree - no need to lock it, especially not in the summer when there is not much else going on.
