anyone else a fan??

i´m a recent convert, i´d heard of them of course and could also name a few of their songs but now i´m trying to give them a good old listen.

here´s one i cant stop listening to at the moment.......

living on a thin line

My favourite Kink's song has to be the Apeman, I love it to be bits.

Great band, some of their albums were easily as far-out as the Beatles at the same time period too.

i love how he sings it in some kind of faux african/west indian accent

I always tend to find any song that includes the word banana tends to be awesome, like the Ramones Havanna Affair.

I remember I bought the 2 disc Greatest Hits a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with them. So many fantastic pop tunes, they rarely get the credit they deserve these days.

Current favourites of mine would be 'Days' and 'Dedicated Follower of Fashion'.

this is what i downloaded the other day, i´m enjoying it so far, i would like it if someone could recommend any other of their albums.

the strange thing is, i got into the kinks after living on a thin line was on a re-run of the sopranos that i was watching.

My personal Kinks masterpiece would be Autumn Almanac. A fabulous example of outstanding song writing.

The beatles and the stones get all the credit as far as UK 60s bands go but the Kinks were right up there, actually i'd put them ahead of the Stones in honesty.

great line from that song......

I like my football on a Saturday,Roast beef on Sundays, all right.

Big shout.

Even though I'd have probably agreed with you a while ago.

Definitely on the side of The Kinks v The Stones.

I was lucky enough to see Ray Davies live a few weeks back and he was absolutely brilliant, seems he is now talking to his brother again so hopefully we could see a Kinks reunion at some point soon.

a bit too late for the original line up since Pete quaife died in june...real pity that. All their albums up to the muswell hillbillies are pretty essential. As for the kinks v stones question, Id pretty much come down on the side of the stones, though I dont think its relevant to the merits of either group.

fave kinks tracks include:
big sky
where have all the good times gone
god's children
victoria
mr churchill says
love me til the sun shines
lincoln county

I'm Not Like Everybody Else is epic. I thank David Chase for introducing me to that epic song of theirs, just a general unknown gem by them.

My mate was a huge fan so I ended up seing them live a couople of times. Great band.

I'd agree with you.

Great band. There have been some great songs already mentioned, and many more that haven't, such as Dead End Street, Well-Respected Man, Waterloo Sunset and Shangri-La.

I bought a lot of their albums a couple of years ago and I'd say the one I listen to most is "Something Else by the Kinks". Absolutely fantastic album by one of my favourite bands.

Yeah it was sad news about Pete Quaife but it would be great to see the two brothers put aside their differences for one last tour.

I'd agree with you.

Waterloo Sunset is a work of art, almost perfect in every way. I've got a huge soft spot for sitting by the riverside.

Something Else is a masterpiece that blows the horribly dated Sgt Pepper or the woefully disorganised "Satantic Majesties" out of the water.

Yes thank you, for a minute there I thought I was the only "Something Else" fan. It's a wonderful album. Up there with the best albums of all time.

Don't be stupid. Majesties isn't even the Stones' top conceptual record. As if they were the type of band to be writing concept records in the first place.

they're my favourite band of their era as well.

stand out tracks for me are waterloo sunset, autumn almanac, see my friends, death of a clown, some mothers son, dead end street and probably my favourite, shangri-la.

you really got me is obviously a classic as well.
