Jackie fecking Chan as Mr Miyagi, JAYDAN FACKING SMITH as Daniel Larousso, By his very name he is meant to be fecking Italian American, AND JACKIE feckING CHAN!!!!! I am so pissed off I want to burn down every Cinema that shows this abortion.

Its a decent enough film but they use special effects in the tournament fights, so it more closely resembles street fighter than karate kid.

I dont care. If they have changed that much change the fecking title as well and let it stand on its own two feet instead of ripping off and bastardising a classic movie. And dont even get me started on the A team.

And yes of course Italians can be black, but are you seriously telling me you are buying into Little Willie smith as a martial arts expert, really, piss poor casting.

He's not a martial arts expert, this is what the story is about. Him learning martial arts.

Can black guys not be good fighters? Anderson Silva would disagree. But he's a good dancer too.

Stop with the fecking racism card, of course black guys can be good fighters, where did I say they cannt. Look at how many of the best boxers in history have been black. But This kid is not The Karate Kid. End Of. There is only one.

I'd accept your claim that there is one Karate Kid if you wrote the movies or came up with the ideas. I'm pretty sure you didnt and those with the power to do so have decided to cast 3 seperate karate kids, whether or not you liked them or thought it was a good idea.

You can say "But there's only one karate kid to me" all you like. In the grand scheme of things, it doesnt matter what you or I think. There are 3.

What's wrong with Jackie Chan? He could kick the shit out of that bloke from Happy Days.

The should have called this "The Kung Fu Kid" though.
 
bump: I watched this DVD the other night with the family. the kids liked it and I thought that Will Smith Jr was good but why did they call it the Karate Kid?
yeah I know it's a remake of the original one but at least in that the kid learned karate. did I just answer my own question?
 
I was seriously afraid to watch it because I really love the original, but I thought it was quite good.

Yes quite a few things changed in it, except the storyline of the movie. The character names changed, the location changed, the style of fighting changed but it was still much better than I thought it'd be. That young lad is just Will Smith all over I reckon.
 
I loved it, thought it was a great kids film. A bit to much with the China tourist board though.
 
I love the original, probably in my top 10 films and hated the idea of this 'remake' but I saw it the other day and didn't really hate it, its ok. Not as good as the original, the characters are too young, its a little long and I didn't root for Dre like I would Daniel, but overall its a decent family film, Jackie Chan is good. Why it wasn't called the Kung-Fu Kid I don't know though.

Tbf I was hoping for a twist at the end where Dre got his ass kicked in the final and lost.
